Is it suitable for plastic rivets?

Is it suitable for plastic rivets?

As long as the rivet fits the tip of the tool it should be work.

at HD the display rivets indicated a 'grip' distance of 1/8"...are shorter 'grip' area rivets available at HD and what is the 'grip' area of this tool

Asked by: MQ
The tool just keeps pulling on the rivet shaft until the rivet tightens up and sets, so there really isn't any limit to the grip area for the tool. I don't know what rivets are available at your store.

Im a first time user any tips?

Asked by: Carla
I used it with the largest rivets available, to hold my plastic fan blade cowl together. The tool needed Godzilla level strength to pull the handles. I used my smaller gun many times without a problem. It could be user error. (?).

Customer Reviews

6 in. Swivel Head Riveter Tool is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 57.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Riveting Performance! I didn't realize how handy a riveter can be until I received this product. Usually riveters can be used on thin sheet metal to secure pieces together, maybe to fix a mailbox or a grill or something like that. I had a broken wine opener that was missing the pivot bolt for one of the handles, basically making it worthless. Instead of buying a new one, I decided to try this riveter out and it worked like a charm. It was a bit of an unconventional fix but it worked great. This riveter is easy to use and is built like a tank. It has a solid sturdy metal construction with long rubber ended handles for comfort and to provide more leverage when riveting. It also has swivel head to make the riveting more ergonomic and easy to use and it includes 4 different riveter head sizes with an integrated wrench to exchange them out. It's a very clever design. When using the riveter the rivet wouldn't secure with the first squeeze so I just squeezed a few more times and it worked fine. I am very satisfied with this product and hope to use it again for fix-me-up jobs around the house!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good In Theory Looks Nice and the swivel head is handy but it doesn’t fully pull the river tail about half the time. It gets really annoying. I recommend the Stanley rivet gun.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Jam clearing and usage secrets -- the missing instructions I purchased the DeWalt Swivel Head Rivet Tool from Home Depot in Portchester NY. It works and seems sturdy but the instructions are lousy. The unit I think is actually an OEM from an Arrow RHT300. Note the Arrow instructions are also just as bad. For me the unit jammed on the third rivet. It no longer pulled the rivet through, no resistance, as if something had snapped inside. I tried a new rivet and it worked better and I got that rivet in, but then the stem jammed in the unit and would not come out. After a bit of Googling there are some secrets to all of this. Secret one is when you put the rivet in, open the arms *ALL* the way, then squeeze down. Open *ALL* the way then squeeze down. Once the stem has snapped off, open *ALL* the way and the remaining stem piece drops out. The other secret is that all these tools sometimes jam, and they do not tell you how to clear the jam, in particular the Stem or Mandrel piece remains stuck in the unit. Clearing the jam is quite easy. 1) You need a large screwdriver, or the small spanner thing that comes with the unit. 2) Look at the swivel head piece. Look at the back of the round cylinder. There is a cap with two grooves, looks like >> -O- << this. 3) Using the screwdriver carefully unscrew that cap. Do it somewhere like a clear desktop. There is a spring in there that may shoot out and you do not want to loose all the parts. 4) With the cap off gently tip out all the parts from the back. At this point my stuck stem / mandrel also came out. There should be now five parts on your desk. a) Cylinder cap, that you unscrewed b) A spring c) A pusher part. Looks pointy at one end and has a cylinder at the other where the spring fits d) Jaws, part 4 and 5. Two parts that form the tools jaws. They are a pair. Look like teeth. Has a channel in them with grooves. 5) Wipe clean and lubricate parts with some oil / WD 40. 6) Reassemble. OK this bit is a bit tricky and requires a gentle hand and a bit of patience. It is easier to place the unit on its side on a desk. a) From the back insert the jaws as a pair point side first wide bit last. It is easier to insert one on top of each other rather than side by side. Just put them in there at the opening. You want them to remain as a pair and on top of each other. b) Next insert gently the pusher part pointy side first. That pointy bit should mate with a groove that the jaw pair forms at the back of the jaw pair. c) Next insert the spring d) Last insert and screw down the cap. It took me a while / google internet to figure this out, and I think the manufactures / Home Depot would save loads of cash on returns if they would only explain this in the instructions. best, Mike. ~

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Price And Limited Lifetime Warranty This is a great idea when it's hard to get into tight places with the swivel head. The tool has a on board wrench which makes it easy to change the rivet head size . I like that it also come with a Limited Lifetime Warranty which is no surprise with a Dewalt product. The gun comes with a assortment of rivets which gives you 120 rivets for a good starting point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool to have! I bought this origonally to fix a screen door, but I keep finding more jobs to use it in. From fixing the hanger in a bird feeder to anchoring my attic shelves properly, this riveter does it all! I was afraid I would not be able to use (due to troubles with carpal tunnel) but I really don't have to squeeze to hard and because of the swivel head I can use it pretty much anywhere, as long as there's enough room to open and close the handle. ***The only thing wrong about this tool is the ring at the base of the handle (to lock it in a closed position) fell off somewhere, because it doesn't go all the way through the handle.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A quality tool for occasional pop riveting This is a great tool if you have just a few dozen rivets that you need to set on an occasional basis. I compared this tool to the equivalent hand riveter from a company known for bay cargo, and this Dewalt has longer handles (more leverage) with more padding (more comfort) and more throw (fewer squeezes required per rivet). There was a noticeable drop in effort required to set the same size rivet when using this Dewalt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Riveting Solid in hand and nice that it has comes with the various tips mounted right in the tool to swap out. I was very pleased that despite it's size I could fit into tighter spaces. For example I was splicing together 4" venting pipe for a clothing dryer exhaust. You need to open the handles completely to engage the internal catch mechanism, in other words you can't make small steps in the tightening of the rivet. A little tricky if you don't have enough space, but it works. Overall good addition to the tool box.
