A:  The blade itself is steel & will rust. Only the cutting edge is carbide (which does not rust).

                Dispenser design is stupid
Dispenser is not designed to travel. If you throw this in your toolbox (which I did) the you are screwed. You'll end up not been able to take the blades out without destroying the dispenser. This is only designed to be hung up in a stationary spot.

                  Still good...
I'm stick sticking to carbide edge, last twice as long. Just disappointed that I got the old style dispenser. I really like the new dispenser as others stated, easy blade out on bottom and used blade storage on top.

ONLY great for heavy duty jobs
these may be suitable for heavy duty cutting jobs, but if you are cutting just cardboard or lighter items, be aware that the jagged blade edges catch and drag, ripping cardboard or paper, rather than cutting - see image of cutting edge.

                      Long lasting blades, nice dispenser.
I saw some review where someone smashed the dispenser with a hammer to get the blades out. I hope he's not a contractor because problem solving is one of the key skills a good contractor requires. With a little patience and a simple examination of the dispenser he would've seen that the yellow bottom is a lever that swings out to dispense a single blade. Smashing something with a hammer because you can't figure it out is very juvenile. Also, the dispenser has a slot at the top to dispose of used blades. The blades themselves are long lasting a very durable, they last longer than Irwin heavy duty blades that I normally use. They will wear out eventually though like most blades after heavy use.

How to open & remove blade
I was wondering if I would have to break the container open with a hammer as well, but after looking at Dewalt's engenuity of the packaging - I chuckled. Please see photo.

                          Need hammer to open
I had to use a hammer to open this idiotic package. This pile will join my Dewalt utility knife that could not be opened and two adapters that don’t fit anything I own from Dewalt. I promise to spend no more money on Dewalt products!!!

The yellow arm at the bottom swings out from a pivot point on the left. But the one I bought was really stuck. And I wasn't about to jam my thumb in the hole and pull with an awkward amount of pressure considering this was a box of razor sharp blades. Just put a flathead screwdriver in the gap on the right and give it a twist. After popping it open and closed a few times it worked fine.

They are utility knife blades. What else can be said? To be honest, I really haven't done anything heavy-duty with them yet, such as drywall, but so far they are fine. The dispenser takes a minute to figure out, but I like it, especially compared to the dispensing method used in the last multipack I had.
