Q:Will this bit be suitable for cutting a dado? If not, what type should be used?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Donald! Yes, the DR50102 can be used to rout ½” wide dado grooves, or wider grooves with multiple passes. Please note that this bit has a bearing above the cutting edges. This bearing can be used to follow the edge of a template or straight edge.

Q:Will this plunge cut into the workpiece?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Farley, the bit will plunge very well as long as you move the router forward along the cut path as you plunge. This is called “ramping”.

      by|Oct 14, 2021

A:  No, this will not. This is a flush trim bit which will bring two adjoining pieces of material to "flush". You can tell by the roller bearing at the bottom of the bit and the blade above being flush to it, A plunge bit will cut down into material for removing the inside part of something, it will not have a roller bearing at all.

            Junk, don't waste your $$$
The bearing on this bit smoked and self destructed the first time I used it. Ruined the piece I was working on as well. You get what you pay for I suppose. Finished the job with a Freud. No more router bits from big box stores for me.

I was needing to flush trim the openings for my handmade boat hatches. Since the hatches where being cut into the deck I use a straight edge on the deck for this bit to follow. I had 5 hatch openings to do and this bit made quick work of them. Because the flush trim bit gave me a clean straight edge, I followed with a slotting bit to form a lit for the hatch to rest on.

Do not waste your money on this item. I have bought more of these than I'd like to admit. I bought one two days ago and I got four 6" diameter holes cut before the bearing blew out. Absolutely crap product.

Cut great. Used making a guitar body out of walnut. Even cuts left a smooth bottom for joining the neck. The top bearing allowed for cutting to a template.

These bits cut! You can trim anything. Some things only once but hey, that’s ok, you trimmed it. Pro tip: make a video of the bit spinning and slow it down and hear how cool it sounds
