2-Bike Hitch Bike Rack

The DK2 Hitch Mounted BCR590 Bike Carrier is just what my family needed to transport our bikes. Although the Bike Hitch only holds 2 bikes it is perfect for holding both mine and my wife’s bikes. I have used other racks in the past which had a hard time holding women’s bike due to the design of the middle bar. The DK2 fits both our bikes with ease. A great feature of the DK2 is that you can use it with either a 1-1/4 in. or 2 in. hitch, and easily secures with a clip and a bolt. Another great feature is that with the bikes off, I can still gain access to the rear of the vehicle as the DK2 folds down to allow access to the rear of your vehicle. As you can see in the pics which I have included the hitch comes in a box, and only took me about 25 minutes to put it together. The instructions are very detailed and are easy to comprehend. Overall for my needs it gets the job done!

I have been using a 4 bike rack for years now and honestly, it's frustrating to put the bikes on. First, it barely holds three. But my bike rack has difficulty holding a ladies bike with a slanted top bar. All of that is fixed with this DK2 2-Bike Hitch Bike Rack. Although it is for only 2 bikes, it works perfectly for my needs. The bikes fit securely in place. The base for the wheels are adjustable, as well as the top brace. Then you use the rubber straps to hold the wheels of your bike in place. The rack comes unassembled in a shipping box. It was packed well and the directions were comprehensive. Putting the rack together took me about 30 minutes. The rack has the option of fitting into a 1-1\4" or 2 inch trailer hitch and it secures with a bolt and clip in the hitch. It fits well in the hitch and stays in place but it does wobble a bit side to side while driving down the road, especially when you hit bumps. The center shaft has a bit of play in it which causes it to wobble. I am working on finding a small wedge to push in the center to keep it from moving. The description says that the bars on the hitch fold up and down. I didn't find that to be the case. There are pins that hold them up or out to the sides. You pull the pin and take them out or move them to the top slots when not in use. It's just as simple as a foldable rack. I am impressed with the quality of construction with this DK2 bike rack. It is made of quality steel and the powder coated paint is great.

My daughter and I like to ride bikes and she has been asking to go places other than our neighborhood or places within riding distance of our house. I have a truck and can take the bikes in the back, but it is not as good for them and they don't ride well. In the future I will likely get something bigger or a truck bed holder for the rest of the family's bikes, but for now a 2 rack is all we need. I picked this rack because it seemed easy to set up and like it would meet my needs well. The assembly took around 20 minutes and that included me taking pictures and getting the bikes on the back also. Now that it is assembled it comes off in a fairly small footprint and will take 5 minutes total to put back on and add the two bikes. The one issue with install that I noticed and others may complain about is that it can be hard to get the wheel racks and hook parts to get tight on the square rails. The plastic handles you turn can get very difficult to turn to the point that I used a grip clamp to help me turn it to get them tight all the way. Now that the holders are in place I shouldn't have to move them and the vertical support hooks were much easier to tighten for me. The hooks have rubberized foam to not mar/damage the bikes, but I may use an extra cotton t-shirt to be sure there is no rubbing, but I don't think that is really needed. I will also likely use a strong bungee cord or strap to hold the two bikes together, but again I don't think it is needed, I just like things extra secure. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the difficulty with the hand-turning screws getting tight and because the rack as a whole is a little loose even when fully built. The two side racks and middle bar are attached using metal pins going through holes and they do not fit super snug so that your can take it apart easily. This does make it easy to fold the rack down for storage, but makes it feel a little flimsy when fully installed. I would have preferred a screw or bold of some type so it didn't have so much movement. I feel it is still very strong and secure, but not as secure and robust as it could have been. This is especially strange because the hitch attachment does use a threaded device and not a standard hitch pin. It seems odd to use a screw to the hitch (when most itch connections don't), but then not use a screw to hold the support arms in place. Overall it seems like a good rack and I like it so far, but a couple minor changes would have made it great!

I bought it during the winter months and just recently set it up. When I tried to mount it on my car the rack would not fit into the receiver. At first I thought it was the receiver so I tried it in my other car..... didn't fit there either. I ended up having to grind the paint and some of the metal to get it to fit into the receiver of the one car, still doesn't fit into the other car. I am not sure if the part that goes into the trailer receiver is too big or slightly bent..... regardless, it was very frustrating trying to put this thing on the car. We finally got a chance to use it today and it seems to be a pretty good rack other than the hassle of fitting it to the car.

It did not fit in my hitch (1 1/4") at all. I had to use a belt sander to remove the paint and about 1mm of metal on the section that goes in the car hitch in order to get it to go in. I had another bike rack before so I know the hitch is OK. The rack itself is ok but I will not buy from K2 again, their quality control is not good.

A little bit sloppy on fit. Knobs on center post do not tighten well. On the plus side it holds two Specialized E-bikes fairly well. Much better price point than Yakima, etc. I think if I was going to use the bike rack a lot I would pay the Yakima price and get a sturdier, easier to use rack. But I am an infrequent user so it is what I need.
