A: Use regular ice melt for that Use these to hold open a melt water runnoff chanel. If no channel make one first by hand.

A: We do suggest the deicer bricks be installed before a storm to ensure proper placement and to maximize effectiveness, but they will work to melt the snow if also applied after the storm. Be aware, they may not melt as much snow as if they were installed before snowfall began. Each box does come with 6 "bricks" inside that can also be broken apart if needed, therefore it may be easier for applying in your instance, in smaller pieces.

A: Absolutely, in fact it’s best to get them out there prior to snow and ice as a preventive measure. I place these anywhere there is ice buildup. Roof valleys, neat the top and bottom of gutter downspouts etc.

A: Not really meant for in the gutters-----place about two feet up on roof from gutters, and meltage will trickle down to gutters. Rain will quickly degrade them in about 3-4 weeks. Wet snow, about 6-7 weeks. Cold dry snow above 25 degrees--about 8-10 weeks. Make sure they ship them with some padding around boxes, or they'll arrive broken in pieces, and won't last as long. Cartons are heavy too, and not easy to get up onto roof unless you use a backpack. I'm going back to the smaller "pucks" sold in the store.

I have never used anything like this on my roof....

I have never used anything like this on my roof. It worked as advertised for the one and only snow fall we have had so far. 5" of snow and the bricks are mostly gone. Worked but wish they lasted longer for the price. This might be an expensive winter.
