Will this work for the kolher soaker tub that is 18”deep I don’t wanna have to spend 60 dollars for the one that offer
    ByJul 13, 2019

    Answer This Question

This drain kit has an adjustable height from 15-15/16 inches to 19-5/16 inches and an adjustable depth from 8 inches to 9-1/8 inches. Since your Kohler soaker tub is 18 inches deep, this kit *may* work if the overall height and depth adjustments meet your needs. It is recommended to double-check the measurements and specifications of both your tub and the drain kit to confirm compatibility.

Will this kit work with a freestanding bathtub?
      ByAug 16, 2018

      Answer This Question

Yes it will, but won't look very finished. Usually people install polished chrome or polished gold drain and overflow. Match the pipe to you faucet color. Probably comes in oiled bronze also. I just did my own bath in all oiled bronze. Really looked good. The right angle stop valve for the toile was $75.00 and the slip over bronze pipe for the coper pipe coming out of the wall was $35.00. Pricey but really finishes it off. Only a builder, fussy person, would really notice, but it made me happy to look so good. Spend a little on the small touches and it will come looking like a magazine picture. Good luck.

Yes it should most tubs that are moderately built even to freestanding are set to a standard where everything fits and those are adjustable and then out at up-and-down for the top overflow and for the drain and bottom

Does this fit together via twisting the fittings (like the P-trap under a sink) or do the parts need to be glued together? I know that the trap will have to be glued on, but what bout the parts provided here?

What is PVC Rough? Is it different than Sch.40?
        ByOct 31, 2016

        Answer This Question

The PVC rigid is a material that they make that a stronger with a thinner wall schedule 40 is usually quarter-inch schedule lady is a heavier duty more of the polymers that are confusing do it and schedule 20 is used for drain which is real thinwall

        (1)

This kit has thin wall pvc and does NOT fit sch40 pvc. The output pipe for this kit has an o.d. of 1.5 in. exactly and schedule 40 has an i.d. of 1.59 in. If you try to fit it inside sch40, you have 0.09in of gap which is almost 1/16in. on each side.

        By|Dec 7, 2022

'PVC Rough' is referring to the application of this item, not referring to the PVC type. The kit is constructed from schedule 40 PVC.

I believe it is called a Rough-In because it does not include the overflow cover and drain cover fittings. It is basically the rough piping and gasket needed without the extras.

              Great quality PVC Drain Kit!
This is not typical cheap thin walled 'polypropylene' material but actually thicker PVC as described. Very nice quality overall and much more sturdy than what was installed from new. Nice thick rubber gasket included. The overflow fitting screw holes are tapped which is nice if you don't have self tapping hardware. I've seen sch 40 kits that are not tapped. If you can't use sch 40 to plumb your tub drain this is the next best thing and maybe better since it has slip joints. Highly recommended. Mine was made in Taiwan which maybe could explain the nice quality.

Does NOT work with sched40 1.5in pipe.
Well… I can’t find an adapter to fit the output pipe on this kit to go to 2in schedule 40 pvc. My “p” trap is sch40 2in. So I bought a schedule 40 2” to 1.5” reducer, but 1.5” sch40 pvc is 1.59” i.d. and 1.9” o.d. The output pipe on this kit is 1.5” o.d. exactly. You have almost a 1/16” gap around the kit’s output pipe and the 1.5” sch40 pipe. I tried a rubber adapter for 1.5” to 2”, but that is sch40 sizing so it’s too big. How do people use this thing??!

Does not fit Schedule 40 PVC pipe.
Bought this from the Orange (HD) big box store via mail order. Trying to adapt a new Sterling tub to the existing 2in sch40 pvc in the foundation. Put in new 2in sch40 “p” trap and a 2in to 1.5in sch40 reducer. This product says it is 1.5in pvc, what this means is that it’s the thin wall pvc NOT schedule 40 pvc. It is “1.5 inches” on the outflow pipe, but it’s 1.5 inches EXACTLY and that’s for the o.d., but normal schedule 40 pvc pipe has an inner diameter of 1.59 inches and an o.d. of 1.9 inches. I can’t find anything to make this drain kit fit the schedule 40 pipe in my house. Now I have to try to return it. I thought it would be good because I can choose what trim I want for the bath. Now I have to buy the more expensive product that is the correct pipe diameter and throw out the trim it comes with. What a pain!

Fit well and easy to adjust. As with all threaded pipes, be sure to avoid cross-threading and a bit of ptfe tape adds a bit more sealing assurance.

Don't buy this, it's very flimsy compared to the pvc tubes you are used to seeing. I did not install it for this reason. Spend the extra $15 and get a solid kit.

This is made for a small regular bathtub, not for many of the bathtubs listed on Home Depot site. It isn’t long enough for the Ariel I Oval soaking bathtub. It also has a small diameter and overflow may not drain fast enough to keep up with inflow. It also is not compatible with 1-1/2 in ABS or PCV.
