The Design House Model # 1542864.8889(9) Universal Ceiling Fan Remote is the perfect solution for a fan that is hard to reach. It was very easy to install, with great directions and everything one needs to make the installation. You do need a battery for the remote. The remote design is sleek and straight forward in how to use it. I recommend this product to anyone needing ease of operation in a fan currently without a remote.

3 speed fan and light dimmer switch .this unit will convert. your standard 3 speed pull cord ceiling fan into a remote controlled ceiling fan . you can easily adjust the radio frequency by setting the 4 pins up or down as you desire. making sure you set both the main radio controller and the hand remote the same . the unit is designed for ceiling fans with or without built in lights . the hand controller will allow for 3 speed fan and to be able to dim the ceiling fans lights as well as turning them on or off . the unit will require one 9 volt battery not supplied.

Perfect solution for those too lazy to get out of bed! Inevitably after getting into bed, I always need to either adjust the speed of the fan, or turn it off, which means getting up out of my nice, comfortable bed. No longer! I was able to install this into my preexisting Hunter fan (model # 54131), and problem solved. Installation was pretty straightforward, and fit fine under the hugging part on the fan. It would have been a little more convenient to be installing this when installing, or replacing the entire fan, but it was pretty easy to add to the fan that was already there, and much cheaper than buying a new fan that already had a remote. The remote has a little plastic "clip" that you can mount onto a wall, so that you always know where it is, but it's really cheap, and slightly hard to get on. As it is, it looks strange just mounted on a wall without the remote, so we took it down, and just store the remote with the television remotes. Comes with everything you'd need, but a 9v battery.

When I requested this item, I didn't realize that it wasn't like a universal television remote which you simply aim at the t.v. and match up the codes, a good reason to read all the details in the description. It comes with a receiver which gets mounted inside the fan housing on the ceiling. We are do-it -yourselfers, however, we had a knowledgeable friend do the installation for us, since it involved electrical wires. After installing a 9 volt battery, it only took a few minutes for him to remove the cover and match up the wires to the unit. After turning the light on and the speed of the fan to high, you can turn the light on and off and change the speed of the fan without getting up. It also comes with a mounting bracket to hang it on the wall, if necessary. I love it because it saves me from getting up and down to change the fan speed or turn the light on and off.

I have a pretty high ceiling in my bonus room and had been using a grab bar in order to control my ceiling fan - not ideal at all! One thing I like about this universal ceiling fan remote is that everything except the battery is included (even the wire nuts). The remote control has a nice design and has pictures on it to indicate both light and fan functions.

This is a great way to update an existing fan to remote control. Everything needed is in the box (except a 9v battery for the remote). Installation is straightforward and it is good value for money. We have a ceiling fan in the middle of our family room and it sits directly above an area where we are planning to put a 48” round coffee table. With the coffee table in place, it makes it very difficult to reach the pull chains for the lights and fan. This universal fan remote is the perfect solution and allows us to control the fan from the comfort of the couch instead! Our existing fan/light is a Hunter brand that we bought several years ago and it was reassuring to see that we could all this remote controller to an older model of ceiling fan. Installation is pretty straightforward. Before switching off the power to the fan and starting the installation, you need to switch the fan lights on and set the fan to its highest speed using the pull chains. With the fan running, you can then turn the power off. If you don’t do this, you may end up with the fan running at its slowest/medium speed instead of its fastest setting when the fan speed buttons on the remote control are used. If you have other nearby fans with remote control, you can adjust the four dip switches on the fan receiver and on the remote control to adjust the frequency to make sure that they won't interfere with each other (e.g. the remote turns on the wrong fan). You disconnect the live and neutral wires from the existing fan and connect the live and neutral wires to one side of the fan receiver. There are three wires on the receiver that are then connected as follows: • Blue wire to the light control wire • Black wire to the fan control wire • White wire to the white neutral wire on the fan In our case, there were two black wires on the fan and one had a white stripe on it. By looking at the connector in our fan’s light, I was able to see that the black/white strip wire was for the light. If you get these the wrong way around, the light buttons on the fan remote will switch the fan on and vice versa. The kit comes with 5 new wire nuts to make the process of rewiring easier. The receiver then sits inside the cowl which attaches the fan to the ceiling and we had no issues with availability of enough space to hide the receiver in the cowl. Once the fan is reassembled, you install a 9V battery (not included) in the remote and you are ready to go. The remote has the following controls: • Light on/off • Light dimming (if your fan has dim-able bulbs) • Fan On/Off • Fan speed – low, medium and high The remote also comes with a handy plastic wall mount which means you can either leave the remote on a side table or leave it in a place where it can be used like a wall switch. The technique for getting the remote back onto the plastic wall mount did take a little practice however. There is no mention of any warranty in the instructions however according to Home Depot’s product page it has a 10 year warranty.

This is a direct replacement for a failed remote control, or you can install this into a fan/light combo that does not have a remote control. The only catch is the fan cannot be flush mounted otherwise there is no room for this device. I tried it in my bedroom fan that is flush mounted and failed as there was no room. I have another fan in the second bedroom that I installed it in without issue. It works great and the remote control is attractive.

    Remote does not save settings
This remote does not save settings when you turn off the power at the wall switch. You must use the remote to turn on the light and the desired fan setting every time you turn power back on. Also, we have LED bulbs installed and the lights flicker. The dimmer only dims to the lowest setting, so you either have bright flickering light or very low non-flickering light. Unless the vendor has a solution I'm returning to HD. Given the reviews and the price, I expected it to work better not worse than the cheaper Hampton Bay remote system I had installed previously.
