The AMF 1/4 in. Direct Mount Fasteners are designed for use in attaching hurricane panels to buildings. Once installed, they stay in the wall and are ready for mounting panels when a storm approaches. The plastic caps cover the screw threads when the fasteners are not in use.

Installation was straightforward when I installed shutters in a former house. You use the shutter panel openings to mark where you would like to place your anchors around the opening being covered. Use the included masonic drill bit to drill the hole to the depth of the screw portion of the anchor. Drilling is 100% quicker and easier if you use a hammer drill to drill those pilot holes. Then, use the enclosed drill bit adapter to drive the anchors (into the hole you drilled) only as deep as where the machined threads start. That is the end you will put the wing nuts on after you hang your shutters. When the shutters are not in use, simply cover the machined thread portion of the anchor with the enclosed vinyl caps that dress up the appearance and protects the threads in the event you want to paint the white caps to match the surrounding wall colors. Hope this helps!
