A:  The idea is that you push it into a corner if it’s an odd angle - like if you need to match it to cut flooring etc, or match it to an angled piece like a slanted roof to read the angle (like to cut flashing to match the angle). You then can transfer the matched angle to whatever you need. A great, handy inexpensive product for odd angles. I’ve found it indispensable in old houses where walls are not 90 degrees to each other. No manual/instructions but I didn’t find a need for one. 

A:  The reading is always the outer mark be it inside or outside.  In the example photo, the angle is 120.  The other figure 80 is your angle if somehow you are not able to cut beyond 90.  Just flip the wood when making the cut. 

A:  Set it at 90 degrees and then pay attention to which way the numbers go. I use this to bend metal tubing and lock it at whatever angle and match it

A:  You could. But they do have other tool to choose from that will mimic the edge that you could use as well
