Q:Will it split large pine logs that have been stacked for two years? Larger size trunk logs?

Answer This Question
A: Probably not. I used it on smaller logs only.

A: Yes, of course. You may need a couple wedges if the log is very large. The fans towards the top of the wedge help split even better.

A: I used it to split fresh ash logs that were 20 inches in diameter, if that translates to anything you are doing.

A: Yes it should be able to split pine logs and large trunk logs. I spilt 24” diameter logs with two wedges. wedges are made to split large logs but find the weak point though.

Answer This Question
A: It’s metal, so I don’t see why not. Just save the paint away.

A: Yes. It’s steel
by|Mar 6, 2021
A: It is Steel, so definitely can except welding...but I wouldnt. Its only $18..if it breaks then your doing it wrong and would cost more to weld than buy a new one

Paint all over
The blue paint on this wedge comes off on the logs, so you can't burn them in a cat stove.

Don’t buy this!
Estwing makes great products. This isn’t one of them. Bought this new this week. Splitting Cherry Wood, old growth. The wedge is softer than baby poo. Also has a strange tendency to pop out of the logs no matter how deep you drive the wedge.
Buy another product if you’re looking to get the job done. Otherwise you’ll end up with a heavy doorstop.

Splitting beast
The wings on the side really make this stand out against other splitting wedges. This and an 8 lb sledge and you can split any wood. I was splitting 14”-16” rounds right down the middle with just a few strikes.

Really great product. I have been splitting some green, wet wood because I am a glutton for punishment. This wedge has taken a real beating from my sledge hammer and lived to tell the story. It has kept its edge and only mildly deformed the striking surface. Really happy with this purchase.

Dont cheap out with Less quailty Steel!! I pounded this baby over 50x with a maul axe and this thing took the licking and kept on ticking! It took the brunt of some off center shots (sheared the top of the little wings that pop out became prety sharp) but after a few more smashes through the red oak stumps, smoothes right out and now those stumps are pefect bbq wedge pieces. Thanks to the American Made Grade Steel. Estwing for all my construction/destruction tools.

Piece of junk
Do not waste your time or money order wedge. Doesn't not work at all. I ended up finding an old "Warren-teed" model 120-5 wedge (from the 1940s!!!!) rusted like crazy in my garage. soaked it in vinegar for a week, scrubbed it, used an angle grinder on it, used a file to out a razor sharp edge on it, and it works perfectly. find yourself one of those on eBay. This estwing is garbage.

Estwing hit and split
The Estwing wedge is fantastic for splitting wood. 4 or 5 hits then splits. Too bad HD is discontinuing the Made in USA Estwing line of tools. They have been proven reliable and long lasting.
