    Answer This Question

The Everbilt Gate Wheel is made to fit gate with less than 1-7/8 in. outside diameter tube. Shims included helping fit 2 in. or 1-5/8 in. tubular gates.

Why is this the only option? I remember seeing a spring-loaded rod assembley on a gate that would hold a gate in place.

There are (2) options; A; You can still use rod for the gate. The bracket just holds the wheel in place. It’s much easier to operate the gate, at the proper height off the ground.

This Gate Wheel should work as they are designed to handle rough and uneven terrain.

            By|Oct 28, 2023

Yes it should, but it may not be a smooth movement because of the surface. But it will keep it off the ground without a problem.

              By|Dec 6, 2020

Yes, I live rural and have the wheel installed on 14ft gate at my drive entrance. It rolls over gravel with no problem. There's approx 1/2" play between the wheel and the mount to accommodate for uneven surfaces. The wheel works great for me.

The wheel is solid rubber and well made. It should last for years of service.

                  By|Nov 10, 2020

                  About 1.25 inch

                  By|May 6, 2023

The wheel is 1inch. However to accommodate smooth movement over uneven surfaces there is approx 1/2inch play between wheel and mount. You'll need at least 1.75inch between gate vertical tube and gate post.

The manufacturer notes that it could work but will be a bit loose. They suggest adding another shim to make it fit.

Two shims are included that will work for that size gate tube.

The solid rubber wheel allows smooth and easy movement. The wheel is easily removable from the shaft if you ever need to change the wheel. The sturdy galvanized bracket should last a good long time. Two galvanized shims provided to adjust fit to different sized fence pipe. This kit is complete and very easy to install. Instructions are very easy to read and follow.

This is a great variation on those homemade gate wheels. The main problem I had with this was the clearance required between gate and fence edge, or in my case, between gate sections. See, I have a two-part gate with two sections swinging in to open, then swinging back to close and lock. The gate section is approximately 8 feet wide, so I wanted to install a wheel to prevent sagging. To install this wheel I had to remove the bolt attaching the support at the corner and substitute the gate wheel bolt to fasten it back. No big deal, but when I did that the wheel did not clear the gate edge to lock it closed. This wheel requires 2 3/8" gap between the sections to fit. (See Pictures). I suppose I could sand off a section of the wheel to provide clearance, or even to widen the gate hinges to provide clearance, but not today. Just a heads-up to all you DIYers. Measure the gap between the gate where you want to install this.

Make sure you measure the distance between your gate in the closed position and the gate post. I didn't and barely have enough clearance for the gate to close with the wheel attached. Even though the wheel is 1inch wide, there's built in play of approx 1/2inch between the wheel and mount to accommodate uneven surface as it rolls. You'll need a minimum of 1-3/4 to 2inch space. The Everbilt Gate wheel is quality made and includes a couple shims and hardware to mount. The wheel itself is 8" diameter solid rubber - larger than other gate wheels I've looked at. The fixture is double zinc coated and should remain rust free for years of service. My fence is commercial grade/construction with 3inch gate posts and a custom 14ft gate that is purposefully installed a little lower to keep small animals out. As you can see from the pic below my gate is constructed out of 1-7/8 tube and has a small stub below the bottom cross bar. Using the two shims I was able to position the top bolt above the bottom cross bar and the lower bolt below the bottom cross bar and was able to put enough pressure on the fixture to keep it in place. The wheel rolls over a gravel drive onto a grass area. The gate opens and closes smoothly and the wheel absorbs uneven surfaces. A gate wheel sure makes opening and closing the gate a lot easier and should help keep the gate from sagging over time.

This is a heavy duty gate wheel. It has an eight inch diameter wheel and comes with all the hardware needed to attach to a 1 5/8 inch up to a 2 inch outside diameter tubular gate. It comes with two u- brackets and two carriage bolts along with required nuts - so it is ready to install right out of the wrapper. I plan to install this on our driveway gate to keep the gate from scrapping on the concrete when the gate opens and closes.

Everbilt Gate Wheel I got this wheel for a sagging double chain link gate was a good choice. I used this to prevent the gate drag and sag. This wheel helped to take the load off the long gate. It came with hardware included. Easy to install. That made the gate a lot easier to open and close and had it actually ride on the wheel rather than have to pick the gate up and drag it open on my cement driveway. It seemed to be very durable as well.

The Everbilt Gate Wheel is a very nice eight inch (8”) diameter, easy rolling design. My gate isn’t tubular, but square, so a light modification was done to make it work. The great part is that people no long have to raise up on the gate to get it to latch. This only requires a few minutes to install and give peace over aggravation. The gate on which it was installed is six (6) feet wide and works so much better with this wheel. The board on the bottom of the gate where the wheel is bolted is to keep our little dogs from escaping. The enclosed brackets really are not meant for square tubing.

I have always wanted to try a gate wheel. I have a 16 foot gate leading into our back pasture and it has sagged since installation. I had been setting it on a wood block. This Everbilt wheel was easy to install and works perfectly. The wheel is about 8 inches in diameter. These will mount to tubular gates that are 1 5 /8" to 2" outside diameter. The mounting frame is double zinc coated to resist rust. I'm very happy to open this gate without holding it up off the ground now the wheel does the work for me.

This is a large heavy duty gate wheel. Great for helping with a large sagging gate, it is a solid rubber tire with the metal bracket being zinc. It comes with the bolts to install , I thought simple enough but I overlooked a important part of the design- the gate wheel is in line with the fixed mounting bracket making it so the wheel can not be installed in the front or back of the gate - instead is HAS to be installed on the side of the gate. Well if your gate latches to a adjacent fence or post next to it - the wheel might not fit in the space between the gate and the post. Bad design in my opinion. Also the wheel is meant to fit onto a gate framed out of 1-5/8" to 2" round metal , its not for wood framed gate. The mounting bracket fits snugly on a maximum 2" diameter of pipe, so if you were to attempt to bolt it to say a 2x4 piece of wood - it might work if you are able to pre-drill holes for the bolt, but doing so would probably weaken the wood frame.
