Q:Why are all reviews several years old? If there were new satisfied reviews that might indicate problems with the product fixed.

A:  It has been a few years (can't remember how long) since I installed those parts. I do know that the installation went smoothly, and everything has worked well since. Sorry I can't be more specific.

A:  I don't have a good answer for that question, but I will offer my review. My system is about 3 years old, and I have to admit that I had trouble with it at first. It would not stop filling the bowl and i had to stop it manually, which was very inconvenient. I finally realized that the problem was the filler system (the blue component). It must be adjusted to where is is 3 inches higher than the fill tube. Since I made that adjustment I have had no problems.

A:  I replace my flush system after my cable broke my old one I had it about 6-7 years. Love it works great. It has a high flush and a low flush no problems.

    by|Mar 25, 2020

A:  Because they last for a long time. Mine last is 6 or 7 years.

    by|Mar 25, 2020

A:  I originally installed 3 of these products about 10 years ago. They worked well for the first year or so. Then there were problems. The main plunger wouldn't seal after a flush. After a while the cable pulled out of the flushing handle. After that I pulled these and installed standard flushing equipment. I could not get the original equipment for my toilets so I had to make do. Finally about 2 years ago I decided to give FLUIDMASTER another try. The New ones have been redesigned. The entire design is much better and I now have them on all three of my toilets. No more problems with flushing. I highly recommend the newer version of this product.

Q:Flush valve leaks, sealant is doing its job but it seems to leak where the valve seats. How can I correct this? the instructions were pictures with a short caption and are useless, any special alignment or return it and go back to the Danco system? It's Friday night and customer assistance does not open until Monday.

A:  You have to follow the instructions. The instructions where very clear that you have to let it sit and make sure the area is clear and dry.

A:  Fluidmaster would like the opportunity to learn more about your installation and provide help. Here is a quick tip that may solve your problem; the tank lever may not be inserted all the way through the tank mounting hole which can allow the piston to stay open causing a leak. The handle comes with an optional spacer that if used may be keeping the handle from going all the way through the tank. Take a look at the handle on the outside of the tank if is more than 3/16 of an inch away from the tank wall then we suggest removing the handle checking if you are using the spacer and if so remove it. Q:i have a kohler toilet model UPC K4438 which is a 1.28 GPF unit. Will this fluidmaster 550DFRK-3 conversion kit work on that toilet ... it appears to be a 2" valve.

        Answer This Question

A:  It should work on any standard toilet.

        by|May 14, 2020

A:  The Kohler K4438 toilet tank uses a canister flushing system called the Kohler Aquapiston. That system unfortunately cannot be replaced by the Fluidmaster 550DFRK-3. The reason being, is Kohler made the Aquapiston a specific size that is neither a 2" or 3", therefore replacing it with our Duoflush simply would not work. Considering its price, it is good enough. The wc hole and the handle of conversion system are not completely compatible, for this the handle was installed vertically instead of horizontal.

The overall concept is great. The ability to select your flush to save water is what lead me to buy this system. The installation was supper easy. It took no more time than any other flush system. the instructions were easy to follow and I was up and running in no time at all. The reason I gave this a one star is because of the actuator handle. The handle insert is designed for a rectangular hole when most standard toliets are round and there is no adapter. It is also a chrome plated cheap plastic. The second is that actuator pops off of the handle on occasion. It is only attached by pushing down a spring lock clamp that does not have enough clip to hold well. The third reason is that the handle seldom returns to the start position after being flushed either up or down. This leaves the toilet running and the entire reason I replaced the original in the first place. I would not recommend purchasing this kit until the actuator bugs are worked out.

limited replacement parts - All or not..
After about 1-1/2 years the handle broke.. I could not find just the handle replacement. I was only able to find one place that had just the flush valve replacement and it was as expensive as the whole kit and was not carried by HD.. I had to buy the whole kit to just replace the handle...2 stars: Installation was easy enough and it does what it says it does - you regulate the water usage. Cons: Broke after only about 1-1/2 years, replacement parts are not readily available (or not at all)..

Great idea. Execution not right yet. I really like the idea of this product, but after updating all my toilets to this and then having to do maintenance replacement on two units so far my conclusion is that the concept does not work at this price point. It would be better to increase the cost and have a higher quality product - that would provide more value. Issues to date: - the cable from the flush lever breaks after 1-2years at the lever. It looks internally like an aluminum wire and attached with a crimped end, similar to the end of a bicycle brake cable. It has broken at the crimp twice for me. - the product is being updated constantly - may be an attempt to both cost reduce and improve functionality - the latest lever attachment does not stay put and moves when you flush making it non-effective. I have solved the issue by using a zip tie - see pictures. Not sure if I will give Fluidmaster one more try when my third unit needs replacing again, or go with a more expensive brand right off. I will see how the reviews go when that time comes.

I bought my Dual Flush Conversion Kit about 5 years ago. I had some problems but I was able to keep it working. Finally the handle broke off and I could not find a replacement. I emailed Fluidmaster and asked for a replacement handle. They sent me a complete, newly designed unit. I installed it and it works excellent. The handle moves easily and flushes with no effort. The adjustment dials work perfectly. The new design no longer has the side tube, just the center canister. I highly recommend the Dual Flush Conversion Kit with Fluidmaster Fill Valve. Together they eliminate toilet fill issues and work perfectly. First you install the Fill valve, you will need to completely empty the tank to install it. Then install the dual flush canister unit. You will need to install the base to the tank opening. Align the arrows, then the canister just clicks into place. Don't twist it. Next install the handle, Then push the black cable actuator onto the handle. Adjust the flush to 3 or 4 to test. Then make further adjustments. Fluidmaster has excellent customer service.

The duo flush was easy to install and has save money on my water bill. I had to replace the inside unit (an easy replacement (under 5 minutes)) as it stopped returning automatically. The toilet I replaced it on in my home probably gets flushed 50 to 75 times a day and lasted for a year or two.

not for the faint of heart ... I had a problem with this at first .. then I investigated further ... here is the issue .. the problem was with who ever replaced the flush valve prior (talking about the overflow pipe attached to drain inside the tank), it was too short and not allow this flushing system to work properly ... long story short, after I got the specs for my toilet and found what the proper height for the water level should be for my toilet (after replaced the flush valve, and the rubber between the toilet, plus the old rusty screws) everything works better than expected now ... i was about to replace both toilets but now I do not have too .. this saved me alot of money please read the specifications carefully that come with the unit you purchase, watch the install video on their website, and most importantly read the specifications for your toilet and check the overflow valve is at the proper height for your toilet!!! also check the minimum level for flushing when you have low and high pressure in your water lines, it makes enough of a difference where it will sometimes not work if not adjusted properly ... it took me a few tries to get it right i love the label on the handle - only suggestion would be to add braille to the handle so the blind can read the handle as well :0) ... then my blind friend would not have to ask me why my toilet goes moves both ways - i can just say read the handle!

I installed this one week ago and so far I love it!! This was the easiest flush system to install! I like that I can choose how much water will flush through the toilet by setting the dials and then when flushing, either half or full tank flushing. This is a splendid idea! I am always looking for ways to save money. The price of this unit is very affordable. I will be getting another one for my other bathroom for sure! I have also sold a couple of friends on it as well. Expect big sales as this idea spreads!

I had to buy an all no flapper besides this for it to work Plus there is not much difference between the the one and two flushes. And the one flush does not work because the handle hits the tank top There needs to be a spacer to bring out the handle farther so it avoids the tank top
