Since 1910, General Tools has grown to become the recognized industry leader for specialty hand tools and instruments. This refractometer features a metal body with rubber hand grip blocks and a calibration screen. It also has a cushioned rubber eyepiece and a non-roll stand. The refractometer is mounted in high impact plastic. All water-based solutions can make light bend. The bending of light increases at a rate proportional to the increasing solution concentration. This glycol fluid refractometer is a precise optical instrument that measures the concentration of aqueous solutions by measuring its refractive index. Its characteristics are small and light; it only takes a few drops of solution to use and it is very user friendly.

Thanks for reaching out to us! This tool measures in Fahrenheit.
This unit does not measure the water concentration of brake fluid. It looks like there is a typo on the Home Depot page, instead of "brake fluid" it should say "battery fluid". We do apologize for the confusion, and will have this corrected as soon as possible.
We do not make a model with the proper scales for performing this analysis. However, differentiating between the two is possible. Take a look at this article, https://www.richardhouriganinc.com/pdf/ETHYLENE_OR_PROPYLENE.pdf
