Yes the holes to connect the wood pieces are pre drilled. No the holes for the bracket are not pre drilled and it is not attached. I thought the bracket was not easy to use and I bought a separate mounting kit.

What holds the post up?

Asked by Lizzylou May 19, 2019

You need to dig the dirt out up to 12" - 18" deep, then pour enough concrete, and then put the post immediately into the concrete. You need to have some means to hold the post in the concrete for up to an hour until the concrete is dry. Then cover the hole with dirt, and compact the dirt. Better do it right, and only one time - the right way. If you need to replace the old one, the hardest thing is to pull the old post out, which might have concrete attached. That could be very heavy. Also you need to find a place to dispose the old post with concrete. Most trash collection company will not haul onto the truck.

Made of aromatic cedar, which is interesting. But expect it to not be uniform if that is what you are looking for. The quality overall was so-so. In particular, the top piece, when screwed on, is over 1/4" out of alignment with the main post. The screw post and hole for it are off-center. At least for me they were. You may have better luck with their QC, or not. Finally, the mounting in the ground is just not solid. Nor do I think it can be made to be. I suppose this is good in the case a car hits it, but this thing wobbles... a lot. I don't understand customers saying that it was nice and solid - it most definitely is not in normal soil.

Seems like a very nice, and solid, cedar mailbox post at a reasonable price. Very easy to put together but, as another reviewer suggested, it makes way more sense to put the mounting spike into the post first, and then hammer the whole thing into the ground. With a bit of prep work (pre-measuring for mailbox height and position, and pre-attaching the mailbox mounting brackets), the total installation time was about 15 minutes. Pea gravel does the trick- much easier than cement! I did no wood treatment whatsoever, hoping that the post weathers nice and grey, to match our house paint. I did apply some reddish wood patch into the spaces between the joints, reducing the chance that water will get in there. The only issue I've noticed in the first two weeks is some thin cracks toward the top of the post, but hopefully they will not widen or affect longevity. Fairly pleased with this purchase.

Wow, does this mailbox look like money but inverse effort, amazing curb appeal. Paired it with the Everbilt 5 in. Elevated Black Numbers for a sharp contrast, so many compliments.

This post was extremely easy to install, even in super rocky NH soil. There is a tiny bit of motion once it is fully installed, but we stacked rocks around the bottom and it is much more stable. It will also be so much easier to replace when the snow plow takes it out too.
