    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Teresa, The Grip-Rite 3.75 Ft. long, 1 1/2 inch wide shim is intended to be used behind drywall, between the drywall and bowed or crooked stud. When I used the shims I used a staple gun with 3/8 inch long staples to hold the shim(s) in place before placing the piece of drywall against the studs for installation. The shims can easily be bent and torn to length by hand. The shims can be used behind water proof drywall against the bowed or crooked stud (see picture below) for a shower wall. Finish the drywall for the shower wall in the normal way and the shim should should never see the moisture. I hope this helps. Chipmaker

    Answer This Question

A:  I would be reluctant to use paper shims behind a shower wall. If one used one of the new roll on water proofing materials like Hydroban between the tile and the backer board the shims would probably be ok, but a more moisture and humidity resistant material would be cheap insurance.

A:  Absolutely! These shims are perfect for that application. I personally use them for a multitude of different tasks, but mostly to align new finishes to match up to existing finishes

These shims worked great. I had a low spot on a piece of drywall and these shims evened everything out. They worked as intended. No idea why they only got 3 stars. Maybe folks don't know how to use them. They go BEHIND the drywall and attach to the stud... just incase anyone was wondering. Just staple them to the stud, bang the staple further with a hammer, fit the drywall and adjust if necessary. So easy.

Great way to compensate for drunk framers!
Very useful both as a shim and for other projects. Keeps its shape and shims things at 1/8" per strip.

We were starting a small renovation that required us to replace a good amount of drywall (now whole panels). Since out house is almost 20years old, we have multiple sizes of drywall that needed to blend seamlessly. These shims made it to easy to get various pieces lined up without issues. Without these, we would have had to use A LOT of drywall compound.

          Good enough shims
1/16-in shims that do what they're supposed to do. A bit expensive.
