Q:How much does the flap open?, either in degrees with 90 being full open or the net opening that results when it is "fully open". I am concerned about reducing down from the fully open connection of 3 1/4 x 10.

Answer This Question

A:  I can’t give you a definitive answer. The angle that will be achieved when the damper opens will be a function of the blower performance as well as the weight and shape facia board attached to the flapper. If the static pressure and volume are sufficient it could open to 90 degrees so long as any trim does not impede its movement. If the blower is undersized or the application requires only a limited cubic foot per minute flow rate it may open much less. I have installed two of these. Granted that is not a huge samples size. But I can report that in both installations the damper opened to about 70 degrees.

Q:Does it work a new construction stucco home?
    by|Dec 3, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Not all stucco systems are the same. The wall thickness varies tremendously depending on the system. For example, Dryvit, one of the major systems uses varied insulation thicknesses depending on the geography. If you scroll down the Home Depot product listing page you will come to a section entitled Product Details. There you will find PDFs of the product documents. I would suggest you print out the specification sheet and show it to your contractor to get a definitive answer.

Q:Does this vent close tightly when not exhausting?

      Answer This Question

A:  The damper closes via gravity and is lifted by the discharging air pressure. I would not describe it as tight.

Q:Can this be used with hardy plank adhered to the flap? Or is hardy plank too heavy for it to operate properly when it is attached to the flap?
        by|Apr 5, 2022
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  If the siding material is so heavy that it effects blower performance, Hide-a-Vent recommends using Azek instead. It can be planed down to the same thickness as other siding materials and painted to match. Azek, a wood substitute is made of a foam core PVC. Therefore it is not terribly dense or heavy. Yet is long lasting and resistant to the elements. Using Azek instead of other materials is discussed on the installation page of the Hide-a-Vent web site.

Great way to stop an eyesore.
This worked out well on my house without too much fuss. Seems like it is designed for new construction, but I was able to make it work without removing my siding by creating a trim around it. It is prominent in the picture, but when you are walking by it in reality, one barely notices it. I used it to vent my over the range microwave. Love being able to vent my kitchen.

this should be just what i needed to install the vent but have it somewhat blend into the wall, since it is in an area where people are seated on a deck. its heavy duty for a plastic material the door is free to open with fan pressure and yet heavy enough to close when not used. im planning to use it with cement siding and hope the piece i use on the vent is not to heavy to allow the door to open enough. if so it should be easy to prep for paint to blend into the wall. much nicer than any tin vent i have come across.

This is not just a kitchen exhaust fan , it's also a camouflage to hide the vent. Your siding, flashing or block Judy fits over the vent and it blends right into your house. It is rectangular and the opening is 3 1/4 x 10 1/4". It's designed for microwave hoods, and most residential kitchen hoods. It also includes double sided tape for an optional application for siding

            Range vent
Worked well as replacement for old one that did not close.
