AnswerYou do not need the heat insulator pad for this fixture. The lamp heads are much further away than your old fixture. You can also replace the halogen bulbs with GU10 LED bulbs if heat is of concern.
How do I remove the bulbs removed for replacement? I’ve tried pushing then twisting.

AnswersNut is outside of the pan, it tightens the pan to the ceiling. The gap is between the pan and decorative tip. Looks like the thread that sticks out is too long and I tried to screw in it more but it’s not moving. Should I force it to thread up leaving less space between tip and on on the outside?

PERFECT LIGHT FOR A HALLWAY
I’ve read several comments about the 3 fixture light. Some people were putting it in a big room. This is not the right light for a bed room. I put it in our hallway. I’ve always wanted track lighting there but our attic pull-down stairs are right in the middle, so that idea wouldn’t work. Then I found these round ones. Bought 2 and they’re perfect. I have them on a dimmer so I can set the mood I want. I highly recommend them for that type of purpose. Thanks!

Easy to install, took about 10 minutes to take the old light down and put this one up. Has a very nice light setting to it. Not too bright, but cozy. Definitely for a smaller room or space. We used it in our bar we just built. I love it !!!
