Thank you for your question. This is a universal remote control designed to be compatible with most downrod style fans with standard AC motors. The included receiver must be installed in the fan in order for the remote to control the fan. This remote will not be compatible with any existing receiver included with your fan. If you need a replacement remote, please call Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-HD-HAMPTON (1-855-434-2678) and one of the team members will be able to help identify your fan to ensure the proper replacement is ordered.

If you would like a definitive answer, please repost the question with the name and model number of your fan. Please note that the remote is not recommended for use with hugger style fans because there is not a dedicated space in the motor housing to hold the remote receiver. This remote is not compatible with fans that have a built-in receiver that can not be replaced or with fans that have DC motors.

        Thank you for your question. This is a universal remote/receiver unless your ceiling fan has a built in receiver or DC motor. Some fans have internal receivers. Also this remote is not for flush mount fans because there is no space for the receiver. If you would like to repost this question with the model number and name of your fan we can see if the combo is compatible with your fan.

            I have a hampton bay ceiling fan with a digital remote. Model chq7096t. I can't figure out how to reverse the fan. The air is blowing up instead of down

            Thank you for your question. This universal remote does not have a reverse function. Remote model chq7096t includes a reverse function, the button is on the top right side of the remote (For/Rev). To reverse the fan, you need to make sure that the fan is stopped before pressing the For/Rev button and then press the fan power button and the fan will start in the opposite direction.                 Thank you for your question. No, the Hampton Bay Colonial Bamboo fan has a remote receiver that is built-in to the motor housing assembly. The original receiver will not be compatible with the new remote. The new remote includes a canopy receiver that must replace any existing receiver. Since the Colonial Bamboo fan has a built-in receiver, your only option would be to call Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-HD-HAMPTON (1-855-434-2678) to order a true replacement remote. In this case, the receiver may be the issue and the customer service team member should be able to help determine what parts are needed. Please note that the original remote has the reverse function and the universal remote does not have that function included.

                    MAKE REMOTES THAT WORK FOR YOUR FANS THAT YOU SOLD!
                    This is NOT a universal remote. I have a Hampton Bay fan where the remote looks identical except my old remote has a GREEN light button. It has a forward/reverse button on the upper right. Evidently, THEY DO NOT MAKE my "model" remote any more, so I must get a new fan, even though my fan is perfectly good. Called Home Decorator line since this is how I purchased the original fan and they told me this one woul work but I need to change out the transmitter. Looking further says this one sold will NOT work with my original fan!!! WHY don't you make this remote with the green button to fix the fans you sold?????? Having a wall hugger set up, means I must completely remove the fan to try and install the transmitter and still not sure it will work because mine has a for/rev button in the upper right.

                    We are sorry to hear that you had this issue. There seems to be some confusion regarding the remote. Without knowing which fan you have, we are assuming based on clues from your review. It sounds like you have the Windward II fan which was discontinued about 20 years ago. The current version is the Windward IV, which is Home Decorators Collection branded, but the Windward II was a Hampton Bay product. Looking online, we can understand how there may be some confusion regarding the remote if you called Home Decorators Collection customer service and gave them a current Windward IV model number (Windward IV and Windward II look similar). The Windward IV has a canopy receiver and would be compatible with a universal remote.The original Windward II remote has a green light button and the For/Rev button in the right corner. It also has a Hampton Bay logo printed on the front. The Windward II had an integrated receiver in the motor housing and would not be compatible with any universal remote because the receiver can not be replaced with a canopy receiver included with universal remotes. We have confirmed that the replacement remote and receiver for the Windward II are available by calling Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-HD-HAMPTON (1-855-434-2678). If the customer service says the part is unavailable, ask to speak to the manufacturer’s representative who will then be able to place the order for the correct replacement remote/receiver.
