Q:I have a Hampton Bay fan that has changeable color temperature for light. What will this do to the color temperature? I know it won't control it based on the buttons I see, but will "set"/"reset" the color temperature to one that I do not like?

Answer This Question

A:  This wall control will not work well with color changing LED light kits. Some color changing LEDs will default themselves to the middle color temperature setting while others will change their color each time the light is turned off and back on too quickly.

Q:I have 2 harbor breeze Merrimack fans (not Merrimack 2) that do not use dip switches. Will this or another wall control work to control both at the same time?
    by|Jan 9, 2024
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  The original Merrimack fan does not use pull chains and instead includes its own remote. This wall control kit is made by a different manufacturer for a different brand and is intended to work universally with ceilings fans that use pull chains and do not included their own remote control. This wall switch will not be able to work with your Merrimack fan. You can try reaching out to Harbor Breeze customer service at 1-800-643-0067 for assistance in finding a compatible wall control.

      Answer This Question

A:  This wall control does not share the same wireless radio frequency as the fan and will not be compatible. You can order replacement remotes or any other part for your fan model by contacting customer service at 1-855-HD-HAMPTON.

Q:Does this have to be hardwired? My current remote Model 191-707 from 20+ years ago is just a remote (no hardwiring) between the fan and remote control.

        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  No this wall control does not need to be hard wired, it is battery operated and communicates with the fan wirelessly using the included receiver module. The wiring is optional and is only to allow you to cut off power to the fan, it does not power the wall control or control the fan through the wire.

at least you can't lose the remote
I bought this remote because I didn't want to have to deal with potentially losing a handheld remote. This allows me to install the remote in the wall and that way I always know where it is. The receiver was fairly easy to fit in the fan canopy and I've had no problems using it over a distance about 25 ft My only dissatisfaction with this is that the in-wall remote needs batteries, I don't understand why they just couldn't use power that's already in the wall

            Potential design issue
The Hampton Bay fan wall switch looked almost the same as the 10+ yr old Hunter switch I was replacing; same layout of buttons. (FYI: The button to the light on the old unit required 3-10 pushes before it might register and turn the light on.) Since this was a near-like-kind replacement, wiring it correctly was easy since all the wires from the old unit were labelled exactly the same as this new unit. My problem was with the location of the grounding wire. This switch was going into the right-most slot of a 3-switch gang panel. The grounding wire is on the switch bottom, just to the left of the wall-mounting screw hole (if you're looking at it from the front of the switch). It gets in the way of the screw hole. I should have taken a picture, but here's a picture where I ended up having to cut out part of the plastic mounting hole to make the switch fit in. If I didn't cut it out, the new switch wouldn't align with the cover plate and cover plate wouldn't go on. This added extra hassle and time to the job. My old broken switch had the ground wire attached to the back so it wasn't in the way of the mounting hole.

Following the current NEC Code NFPA70
The video is might has old code fan and wiring installation. The fan wire has to be protected when you entered into the box by installing a button push in cable connector. Other wise it will be against the NEC Current code for NFPA70. Just would like to Clea it out to protect your house from caught fire..

The Switch looks nice and functions properly. It was easy to install. I was very disappointed to learn that even though it is hardwired to the fan, it still needs a battery to operate. Wish it came in more that one color.

I researched dif brands and then installed two of these HB controllers. I already had one. I had planned on repurposing the old Y2K model to my bedroom. Sadly some buttons would no longer revive after another cleaning. Almost 20 years of satisfaction ain't bad. I plan to buy at least one more and will recomend them when given a chance. On a negative note, one of them switches my BT soundbar. I think I just need to adjust the chanels. I also wish there was an out of the box solution to linking all of them to my phone.
