Q:my receiver doesn't have red wire it has only white and black what should I do?

Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. If the receiver has a black wire instead of a red wire, treat the black wire as the red wire - both are power wires.

Q:Can the lights be taken off the fan and a plate to cover that up. Just need the indoor / outdoor fan to be installed in a bathroom. Just fan - no lights

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. We would not recommend this fan for use in a bathroom due to the moisture and humidity typically encountered in a bathroom. For that type of installation we would recommend a damp rated fan that will be able to withstand the moisture and humidity. This fan can be installed without the light. You would need to call Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-HD-HAMPTON (1-855-434-2678) to order the blank switch cap for the installation without the light.

Some concerns with power switch and humming
It does what it says it will do. It has dimmable light if you keep light button pressed. However issue is with light switch and fan switch if you have on wall. The fan receiver can take only one hot black wire one neutral white wire. It can not take another hot red color wire. You will have to keep light on remote to use wall switch to turn on the light (2 sec delay). Humming noise is an issue at higher speed. At lower speed it’s bearable. High speed not fast enough and wind speed not good

Response from Hampton Bay TeamMar 15, 2023
Thank you for your review. The slight delay between the switch and the fan turning on is a safety function to ensure that the receiver is not damaged by a power surge when the switch is turned on. The humming issue may be being caused by the switch. The fan should operate quietly at all 3 speeds when properly installed. Please call Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-HD-HAMPTON (1-855-434-2678) and one of the team members will be able to get more information to help troubleshoot and resolve the issue. HamptonBay

This is a very nice looking ceiling fan, with some good points and some not so good points. Install was just OK. Made easy in some ways by some clever design options by Hampton Bay. The fan blades just click on to the blade arms. No need to screw them on with 15 screws. Also the screws to mount the blade arms to the housing are secured to the arms and do not fall out. No need to hold the arm in place on the housing with one hand and hold a screw and screwdriver at the same time in the other hand. To make securing the fan brackets to the housing easier, they added a clever little port to allow access for the screwdriver tip (see pic). Makes screwing in these fan brackets so much easier. The fan blades themselves offer two attractive colors. A dark brown and a lighter, more rustic, brown. The wiring is simple as some of it plugs into plastic connectors. I do think they should make the canopy bigger by a 1/2"-1", as the wiring and receiver barely fit inside it. Just too much crammed in that canopy. I struggled to secure the canopy in place with wiring getting caught between the ceiling and canopy, or wiring dropping between the drop rod hanger ball and canopy bottom. Instead of making the canopy bigger, they could put in some type of wiring clips or brackets to hold the wiring in place inside the canopy, and away from pinch points. I do wish this fan offered a flush mount option that I've seen in other fans, as the drop rod wasn't needed really. Programming the remote was super easy and works quite well. The motor noise was low. I did get quite frustrated with the wobbling and ticking noise I experienced after turning it on. I ended up uninstalling everything and made sure the mounting bracket was level and secure. It was. Reinstalled and had the same problem. Made sure all fan brackets were secure. Tested and saw wobble again. Measure the blade and ceiling spacing as specified in trouble shooting. I saw more than the 1/8" spacing difference specified between all blades and ceiling on some blades. Nothing I could do about that so took down the fan one more time. Pulled the drop rod out of the mounting bracket at the ceiling. Reset it and then re-installed the fan. This seemed to help. The ticking noise is gone. The wobble is greatly reduced and can be lived with. All in all, some irritation, but a nice fan when all was fixed.

Great fan unit, I installed this fan in my new home in the small bedroom that will be my office space. I laid out every thing to make sure all part were there. Then I took the instructions and started to install. everything went great till I had to install the fan blade arms. it was hard for me to install them because you have to stick a screwdriver through a hole to get to the screws to remove the spacers and then again to mount the arms 2 screws each. You have to either look up in the hole to line up with the screw or look from the side to get lined up. That was harder for me because I ware glasses. Other than that little problem it all went great. The fan looks great its made of all metal and has glass shades along with wood blades. The instructions are very easy to fallow nice and clear. It's nice and quite puts out great light and the remote works great. The wife liked this fan so much I had to go get a second one at Home Depot and installed it in our second bedroom. Very happy with its looks and operation.

I have installed a lot of ceiling fans in my homes over the years, so feel I have a pretty good ideal what I like or don’t like about them. This fan hit some from both categories. For the price, a good fan. Things I do like about it were: Light weight, good size for small room, the use of the ball joint to attach to the ceiling, and for the most part easy installation. The big plus for this fan is how the blades are attached, easy fast, no tools required and you don’t spend a long time with your arms above your head. Wish all fans had this system. Negatives, not able to get this fan to flush mount to my ceiling, yes my ceiling is flat. The remote control receiver is mounted in the ball joint, they hardly ever fit right, I’ve had fans with the remote receiver integrated into the motor housing, much easier to install. The thing I most dislike about this fan is you have to use the remote, I would love to have the option just to wire it into my dual light switches. Overall, like I said, for the price a good fan.

Thank you for your review. The fan can be connected to wall controls instead of using the remote. You would just need to cut the wire harness plug from the end of the fan wires to separate the wires. The fan would then have the following wires for connection to wall controls - Black (fan power), Blue (light power), and white (neutral). HamptonBay

The Hampton Bay Riley 44 in. LED Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan with Light Kit and Remote Control is an elegant looking ceiling fan. The fan is very quiet and the 3 LED lights provide sufficient lighting to brighten the entire room. The instructions provided with the unit are in both English and Spanish and are very clear and concise. The blades are reversible with dark brown (Espresso) woodgrain on one side and a medium gray (Seasoned Wood) woodgrain on the other. Each blade is 17 1/4 inches long. The Down-Rod provided with the kit is 4 1/2 inches long but you can use up to 72 inches long for very tall ceilings. The provided lead wire is 30 inches long so you will have to obtain a different wire for down rods over 24 inches long. The LED bulbs provided with the unit are each 800 Lumins, drawing 9.5 watts with a lifespan of 15,000 hours and gives off a Warm White light. The bulbs are a standard E26 base. The globes are frosted white measuring 4 1/2 inches long by 4 1/4 inches diameter. Installation is quite easy utilizing the Hampton Bay Quickfit Installation. The fan unit also includes a remote to operate the lights (on/off & dimmer function) and the 3-speed fan. The fan is reversible with a flick of the switch located on the side of the housing where the lights are attached to. There are no pull-chains as the light and fan, which are controlled by the remote only. This is a very rich-looking fan and will be proudly installed in an upstairs bedroom once I recover from knee surgery.

This 44" 5 blade ceiling fan with remote control by Hampton Bay (Riley model) gave a quick updated look to my wife's craft/sewing room. It's a traditionally styled fan in brushed nickel finish and includes the 3 lamp light kit with white globes. Three 9.5 watt LED soft-white bulbs and a battery for the remote are also included. The fan blades are reversible with a weathered oak finish on one side and expresso finish on the other. The installation is very similar to most ceiling fans, however I did find the canopy and decorative bottom cover, a bit difficult to line up and secure. The fan motor is pretty quiet when in operation and is well balanced, but you can still hear a low "hum" from the motor while in the room (not objectionable.). There are no chains with this fan (since it is operated via the remote) which gives it a more "clean" design look.
