Hercules Real-Tuff thread sealant handles ALL my needs around home, shop, farm, garage. After reading the back labels of others, I found this pipe sealant covers anything I could use it for. Oil, gasoline, diesel, steam, hydraulic, potable water. Used to have several other types for different uses and got tired of reading the labels every time I had a different job to do. JUST BUY THE ONE THAT DOES IT ALL! 4 oz. is > plenty for DIY. Already used it for hydraulic fluid (steel nptf fittings) potable water (galvanized, steel, brass) and propane (black iron and brass)... no leaks. Thick and creamy, applies easy with brush in cap, excess wipes off easy or to use again. I Like Done Once and got it!

I was surprised at how heavy this little 4 ounce jar of Real-Tuff PTFE Paste Thread Sealant was when I took it from the shipping package. Although it is 4 fluid ounces, it actually weighs 7.4 ounces or almost half a pound. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene. Being hydrophobic, non-wetting, high density and resistant to high temperatures, PTFE is an incredibly versatile material with a wide variety of applications, thought it's perhaps best-known for its non-stick properties. So this sealant is sort of like liquid teflon tape.
The next surprise was how thick this stuff is -- it clung to the brush so much that it looked like the brush was deformed. My old thread sealant that I've used for years is an aqua blue color, but this new stuff is pure white and goes onto the threads easily. Even better, it stays on the threads exactly where you have applied it -- my old stuff would sometimes migrate a bit after application. I can't say how it holds up over time since I've only had it for a month or so, but it feels like it will last fine and not dry out too much which is important if it's going to keep the threads sealed tight.

This REAL-TUFF PTFE Paste looks to be a very good product. It can be used on virtually every type of pipe, and can be used with most fluids and gasses, including potable water lines. When applied, it does not harden with temperature or age, important if disassembly is ever required. The 4 oz. container is a very convenient size for the home shop, or someone who doesn’t need to use it regularly. Pipe thread lubricant/sealant (pipe dope) is an absolute necessity for any kind of threaded pipe joints. The most important aspect is lubrication, which allows the threads to seal well, and the PTFE is an excellent thread lubricant. Since long before becoming a pipe-fitter nearly 50 years ago, I’ve used pipe dopes. Still have a very old can of Rectorseal No. 5, as well as a couple of fairly old cans of T-Plus 2, and a few 1 oz. tubes of Oatey PTFE out in the shop, and always have a tube in the truck tool bag. Also always keep Teflon Tape on hand. Although the No. 5 is very good, I’ve rarely used it since the Teflon types became available. This REAL-TUFF is very similar to the T-Plus 2, but seems to be a bit smoother. It looks to be very much like what’s in the Oatey tubes. In some cases the paste is much easier to use than tape. I also use dope on the threads and back sides of compression ferrules and unions (never on the face). Though not specifically made as an anti-seize compound, in a pinch, it can be used to lubricate threads of bolts and nuts. I recently replaced the gas valve in our furnace, which would have been a perfect time to try it out, but timing did not work out, so I used my old stand-by. I did, however, put some on a ¾” black iron pipe nipple and hand threaded it into a 90. It seemed fairly smooth.

easy to use, size of container is handy. fits easily into a tool pouch or bag for when your away from your work vehicle. it apply s easily with brush and is thick, i used it on a water softener installation and had zero leaks. i am brand loyal, but would choose this again if it was available where i am. like most of it, its usable about anywhere a leak proof seal is required.

Great for PTFE Paste thread sealant
Works much better than PTFE tape. Doesn't harden in bottle even after years., just mix to homogenize. Real-Tuff is easy to clean up by wiping off tools or pipe. Washes off hands with soap and water.
Don't use pipe near a flame or high heat such as fireplace burner. PTFE upon high heat will release a very poisonious gas, use older non-PTFE pipe dope.
I didn't like that the brush easy breaks off the cap.
