Questions & Answers

What size is this? It says 6x6 but in the cart it says 5.5x5.5, so which is it? If I am paying for a 6x6 I should get a 6x6.

Most likely it can be cut down to size, It is very tightly woven so that should not be a problem. The fabric is not a type that frays easily. I would use heavy duty scissors with at least one serrated edge for a good grip and smooth cutting. The fabric type is synthetic.

As it is woven, I believe it would unravel if you did.

This is a lot more sturdy than your regular foamy rug back. It's dual-sided, so on one side it's got a rubber back, while the other side is grippy plastic fibers like Velcro. I used this on hardwood floor, so the non-slip rubber side went on the floor, while the rough side is face-up under the rug. This is high quality material, so no worrying about leaving residue or sliding around. This thing will stay put! The only thing I did not like about this is there was a need to trim it down. This is a 2x8 rug pad, and I bought a 2x8 rug...but the pad stuck out from under the rug by a couple inches on either side. I'm not sure which measurement was inaccurate, but I think I'd prefer the rug pad to be a bit smaller than the actual measurements by default. That way, it's unlikely to need trimming down. There's not a lot of 'plush' to this padding, it's more anti-slip than pad. If you want something squishy, this isn't it. This is perfect for a high traffic rug like in entryway.

This rug pad has a nice look and feel but unfortunately only average performance preventing throw rugs from shifting. I even tried two pieces of pad front to front on a small kitchen rug on tile to see if the rug backing was an issue, it helped slipping only a little more. The rug marks easily on the rubberized side with a magic marker and then cuts smoothly with a good pair of scissors (see photos). The pad is reversible for use on either rugs or smooth services like tile (again see photos).

This rug pad works very well on hard wood and linoleum floors for holding throw rugs in place, it also works equally well on carpet for holding rugs in place. It is about 3/16 of an inch thick, so it really does not add any padding to the rug, it is designed to hold a rug in place. One side of the pad is a rubbery type of material and the other side is a kind of coarse ruff feeling felt type material. The rubbery side goes toward the hard floor, or if using on a carpet toward the throw rug. The "felt" side goes toward the throw rug if using on a hard floor or toward the carpet if using on carpet. It did a very good job of holding my rug in place and not sliding, it can also be easily trimmed if your rug is not that exact size. The package says 8 ft by 8 ft round, but that is not true, that is the size of the rug it is designed for, it is actually 7' 6" in diameter. The package says that it can be used over radiant heat flooring, and can be used on wood, laminate, carpet, ceramic, marble, vinyl and bamboo. There are no instructions with this and it does not say if or how you can clean it. It also comes in a cute little zippered clear plastic case with handles that I am sure you could use for other things when the rug pad is out. It is designed for indoor use. All in all it did exactly what it was designed to do.

Top quality, lays flat, holds rug well, but beware it stinks for about a week. When I unpacked it I notice a chemical smell and decide to leave it draped across a table in the garage. Glad I did, the outgassing was quite strong. Even in a large 3 car garage with decent ventilation it took about 8 days for the smell to subside. I then cut it to size with large shears (easily) and it installed well. While the pad is good quality, it is very pricey ($215 at the time of this review) more than the area rug we have on top of it. A quick google search and there are lots of alternatives at less than half of the cost (including HD). It doesn’t seem twice as good, so I downgrade it for the price. About my rating: 5 stars – Exceeds all expectations. Better than the competition in all aspects, design, cost, operation, and support (A+). 4 stars – Nicely done. Better than the competition and solves the problem. (B) 3 stars – Works as expected. Has some shortcomings but gets the job done. Might be short in design, cost, longevity, or support. (C). 2 stars – Falls short of expectations and needs improvement. Pass and look elsewhere. (D) 1 star – Fails miserably. Does not get the job done, might even make things worse. Someone at the company should be fired. (F)

This reversible all purpose rug pad is made by Oriental Weavers. They market it be used under area rugs on all surfaces from wood of all kinds to stone and tile and even carpeting. Anything called “All-In-One” or “All Purpose” or “one size fits all” may be okay for gardening gloves or gym socks, but generally speaking, that is not how you should be choosing a rug pad. Different rugs have different pad requirements. There are hand knotted, hand made rugs; there are machine made rugs. Rugs can be made of natural materials such as wool, silk, and cotton as well as man-made materials like polyester and polypropylene. They come in all sizes and several geometric shapes. So what about this 9 x 12 all purposes rug pad? Where should it be used? The actual dimensions of this pad is not 9 x 12 but rather 8’-8” x 11’- 8”. No where on Home Depot’s website or on the packaging does it list the thickness - approximately 1/8” - a serious omission in my opinion. It is a very, very thin synthetic fiber material simulating felt, backed with a natural rubber backing. The best use for this pad would be under rugs in entry areas where low profile - for door clearance - and greatest grip are important. Also under lighter weight rugs that need a rubber backed pad to keep it from slipping. A heavier weight 9x12 rug is usually heavy enough that it is much less likely to slip on any hard surface so the rubber backing is less important for such rugs. This pad will certainly help prevent puckering under heavy furniture and will protect wood floors from scratching. For those who want a softer feel underfoot, this pad would not be a good choice. Nor would it be the best choice under an expensive, hand knotted Persian or Oriental rug. Those rug makers usually recommend pads in the 1/4” range for maximum life and a luxurious underfoot feel. Flatweaves, like Klim or dhurrie, tend to be very thin and so need a pad that provides strong grip and a bit of cushion. This 9 x 12 pad would be perfect for such a rug. If you don’t mind cutting this pad into strips it would also be a great choice under smaller rugs (2 x 3, 4 x 6) and runners. The rough surface of this pad’s woven cushion layer will grip the underside of the rug and the natural rubber backing will tightly grip the floor, without scratching or sticking. The manufacturer also says this pad can be used for rugs on top of carpeting - just install rubber side up. Overall, this is a high quality pad that can be used under all rugs, as advertised, but it wouldn’t necessarily be the best choice in all cases. If your main goal is a low profile pad with tenacious grip and very little cushioning this pad is for you. If, however, you have an expensive hand knotted Persian or just want greater cushion chose a pad with similar construction but is thicker. I was disappointed that the manufacturer of this pad did not feel it was important enough to provide the overall thickness anywhere on the packaging or its literature. The pad may be hand washed. It is made in USA.

I have quite a few area rugs and all are placed on rug pads but this is one of the nicest rug pads that I have purchased. It has a rough textured side and a side with rubber coating so I used it with the rough side up and the rubber coated side down. The rough side holds onto the underside of the area rug very well and the rubber coated side grips my hardwood floor so that the rug does not move. It is a little thinner than other pads that I have so I would use it under thicker, high quality area rugs.

This rug pad is not as thick as others I have used; however, it does the job on my 2ft x 4ft small area rug. I don't think I would use it on a large area rug as I would want something more stable. A pad is needed for my wood floors so that no slippage occurs and also to protect the floors. This pad has a rubberized side to adhere to wood or tile floors.

A great rug pad. A must for runners that slip and slide on hardwood. Can be reversed to work on carpets if they slip. Material can be cut with a scissors. Doesn't leave loose threads. It's basically a rubber pad with a fabric material glued to one side. Rubber pad grips very well on hardwoods and linoleum. Flip it over to use on carpets (rubber side up) it's thin. Doesn't leave an edge where it ends under the rug. In fact I had a hard time telling where it starts rubbing my bare foot over the rug. ships folded. wasn't too wrinkly when unfolded. Will lay flat when under a rug without the need to let it rest.

This rug pad is a plasticized textured flexible mat bonded to a textured rubber pad, its overall thickness is about 3/32” thick adding a little underfoot cushioning. It effectively minimizes area rugs from slipping. When used under our area rug in our tiled entry, the rubberized pad sticks like glue to the tile and the plasticized mat effectively grips the area rug. This pad is easily cut to size using a scissor.

This rug pad is well made and seems durable. One side is a coarse felt, and the other feels rubbery. There are no instructions, and the pictures on the label are the only indication of how it should be oriented. When used over a carpet with the felt side down, it has good adhesion to the carpet. We have a 4' x 6' rug in our lounge, that 'walks' in a certain direction over the carpet, and were looking to this all-surface rug pad to eliminate the problem. We carefully centered the pad under the rug, but found that it does not hold the rug in place. In fact, in a few days the rug seems to have moved off the pad even more than without the pad. I cannot recommend this rug pad for use over carpet. It was not tested over a hard floor, where it may perform better.
