Questions & Answers

What type of clothesline is used in this product (e.g. nylon, plastic, plastic-coated wire)?

Asked by Kroy July 2, 2020

PE plastic over micro fiber line

Where is the larger knob located?

Asked by Islandgirl January 29, 2018

Hi. If you are facing the mounted dryer case (handle pointing toward you), the larger knob (B--looks like a gear) is on the right and the smaller knob (A) is on the left. So, to lock lines before hanging clothes, extend and hook the line, turn smaller knob A clockwise to lock, and then turn larger knob B to tighten. Hope that helps!

Phoenix, Arizona SUMMER SUN producing 110+ degrees! I am concerned the plastic covering the alum...

Asked by Ziaray December 1, 2017

Is each line on a separate spool and can it be used outside.

Asked by John March 16, 2017

Hi John. Each line is individual, but they are connected to one pole. And yes, it can be outside, though it does best in covered areas like porches. Hope that helps!

I would like to know whether the lines stays taut or do they sag under weight of the wet clothing. What is the maximum weight per line?

Asked by LBT August 30, 2016

Hi LBT. The lines will dip under weight: all clothesline will (and should, lest they snap). This dryer has a tension knob that lets you adjust the tension in the lines, though, to adjust for eventual stretch or shorter distances than 34 feet. Individual lines can also be adjusted. [To adjust individual lines, set the lines as though ready to use, extended, tensioned, and in the receiving bracket. Remove an endcap from the line bar handle and slide the black cover strip out. Untie the line you want to tighten. Tighten the line coming through the center hole to just taut. Keeping tension on the main line, thread the end of the line through the lower left hole--leaving a loop--and then back through the upper right hole. Pull the end of the line through the loop (between the center and lower holes) and tighten. Replace cover strip and endcap.] The entire unit supports about 50 lbs, distributed across the lines. The more weight, the more the lines will dip. Hang heaviest items closest to the ends of the line and lighter items in the middle!

I need to replace the small locking knob. Where do I get the part?

Asked by Jim August 6, 2016

Hi Jim. We do not have replacement parts for the 5 line retractable dryer. It is a self contained unit that is not meant to be taken apart.

Hi we have an older model 5line clothes line just wondering how do we take it apart to clean it? Very very dirty ?

Asked by Olivia July 12, 2016

Hi Olivia. Unfortunately, there's no taking it apart for cleaning. The casing is designed to stay closed to keep out as much moisture as possible. To clean it, pull it out like you're going to use it. Then pull up a chair, a scrub brush, a cotton cloth, and a bucket of hot sudsy water. Baking soda paste and a toothbrush does wonders, too (especially on the casing)! And if scrubbing and wiping doesn't do the trick, it may be time to replace. Good luck!

Want to use the T-Bar 4X4 assembly on one end and a single 4X4 on the other. Please Suggest best way to make the T strong enough to hold.

Asked by Jim May 18, 2016

I'm sorry, Jim, I'm not quite sure what you're asking here. The 5-line dryer needs to be attached to a wall or other flat surface that is very securely anchored. The assembly bar is intended to receive the extended line, not to support the main dryer. Regardless, any dryer post will be strongest when it is installed as directed: dig a 20 x 10 inch hole and fill it 3-inches deep with rock for draining; insert the pole (and ground sleeve if you have one); fill the hole with concrete. Use a level to ensure the post is vertical, and brace it so it stays that way while the concrete sets. Feel free to contact Household Essentials directly for product questions at 1-800-922-5524.

How do I replace one of the lines on this unit?

Asked by Hothands August 5, 2015

Hi Hothands. The lines aren't replaceable as taking the dryer apart can (will) damage the inner casing. The lines can be tightened using the adjustment knob on the side of the outer casing. I'm sorry for any inconvenience.

Mount on covered patio walls?

Asked by Fanelda July 2, 2015

Hi Fanelda, Yes, you can. Depending on your set up, you may need different hardware then what the dryer comes with, but it can definitely be mounted as you describe.

Bought this as a gift not realizing the ground pole was not included. The ground pole has been out of stock for months now, so the unit is useless at this time. The unit itself looks to be very sturdy and hopefully can be used in the near future. Would love to come back with a good review of this product....

Hi Clothshanger, I'm very sorry for your frustration. It is disappointing not to be able to use something the way you'd hoped. The unit can be installed on a wall, and the included receiving bracket mounted on a wall too. But it's not the same as a post. Please call our Customer Service at 1-800-922-5524. We may be able to help you further.

Does The Job
Nice unit, easy to install. I was a little discouraged that the lines are just plastic cord. For almost $100 I assumed they would be plastic-clad woven wire. I have it strung over a 20 foot span and they have a tendency to stretch if you put wet towels in the middle of the span so the heavier stuff needs to go on the first 4 feet of each end. But I guess with 5 lines that does give you 40 feet of line for the heavy items. I imagine the lines will eventually fail, at which time I will try replacing them with the woven wire if I can figure out how to get inside the unit to do that.

Hi Tulecreeper, I'm sorry your were discouraged by the cord. It's a sturdy, resilient plastic that will be easy to clean. And yes, eventually, the lines will stretch as all clothesline does. You can tighten the line with the adjustment knob on the side of the main casing. The woven wire is neat idea. We'll look into that. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
