Questions & Answers

Soccer field lighting?

After daylight savings, our soccer practices will end up in the dark. I can move practices earlier, but I stand a chance that not all the kids can make it there on time. For nnyone using this system...do you think one light on each sideline of a 70 yard field will be sufficient to practice in the dark? Thanks.
Asked by: coach
No, I would not as these are rated for "indoor use only". As further argument along those lines, if you take one of these items apart, you will find a simple AC/DC power supply (like you would have on a printer or laptop) glued inside the metal housing.

5 ft. 2500-Lumen Multi-Directional LED Work Light is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 132.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very good Prototype The light output of this is outstanding! Plus the light head attaches very securely to the stand. That however is the last thing I have to boast about. This appears to have been designed by someone who "works" at a desk. This light would last a long time & be very useable a a room light that gets setup & left in place. Moving it from location to location however leaves room for improvement. 1. Folding the side lights back to a storage position pinches the heck out of the electrical wires connecting the side lights to the main. Over time I assume this could be a electrical hazard so I do not fold the lights back as intended. 2. The side lights not folding forward to protect the glass when not in use is a safety concern. 3. The stand feels loose even when all screws are tightened. 4. The 5' cord is a blessing & a curse. I would gladly pay another $50 for a well designed / manufactured version of this light. I paid $100 for this light & intend to keep using it until one with pro level quality is available.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lighting is GREAT, stand not so much First time out of the box the light did exactly what I had hoped for and then some. It flooded a room that I was working in with bright white light at night and for the first time working on a job at night, I did not have to worry about getting sun burn from 500w halogen lamps. The light is whiter and more crisp (it renders a sharper image) than the 500w halogens. The price point is about $20 north of a twin halogen rig and for the 10x10 space I was working in, this LED rig lit it up very well. While I am exceptionally impressed with the first run performance of the LED array itself, I cannot say the same for the stand. The red compression collar referenced by others broke as I loosened the collar to stow the rig for the first time. This is a fatal flaw for an otherwise exceptional lighting tool. Light gets a 5. Stand gets a 1. Mean and median average is a 3. Value is good @ $20 over twin halogen rig, minus the UV filters and sun burn. Address the stand problems and you've got a winner.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from POOR design/quality I would definitely buy an LED work light over other work lights because the LED ones do not heat up the workspace. That being said this light was not designed for work! I ended up having to return it because when I went to tighten the pole in place the collar broke. The collars are all plastic and if you tighten too much they will break on you too….if you don't over tighten it however…it won't stay in place or extended like you need it. There are wires protruding out that go to the small fold out lights that get pinched. The cord is WAYYY too short. To sum up…..it is so delicately designed that after you take it out of the box, it will soon after need repair.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome - not perfect First, let me say that this is the best LED work-light I have found. But it's not perfect. I had to have LED because I simply cannot stand the heat of halogens. Fluorescents are just too delicate and I don't like the color of the light they give off. I'm a pro handyman and needed something that I can use in confined spaces without the heat, robust to handle being toted around and bright. This does all of that, but just not perfectly. And here's why: * The LED "head" should have been designed either with some sort of guard over the glass (plastic) or so that the "wings" would fold in the other direction over top of the main light, thus protecting each other. They do not. * The hold down knob for the head takes too long to screw down. I replaced it with a piece of pvc pipe so that now the head just sits securely on top of the stand, rather than screwing it down. This allows me the ability to quickly remove the head. And remove it I must as it can't be trusted to sit in the work truck without getting damaged because there is absolutely no lens protection. So I take off the head and store that part behind the truck seat in a cushioned bag. * The power cord is way too short for a work-light. 9 feet should be the minimum for a work-light. * The addition of an outlet (receptacle) on the stand would be nice, but now I'm just nit picking. * The stand offers absolutely nothing different from the work-lights of 20 years ago. A little disappointing in that regard. Overall, I am VERY happy with my purchase. It is the single greatest tool purchase I have made in sometime. I love this light....now that I altered the way it mounts and added a longer cord. The brightness is adequate, while not exactly as bright as halogens. All in all, if you need a new LED work-light, you won't find a better one....for now. And I'm always keeping my eyes open for one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from unreliable I've had two of these now after returning another Husky light that burned out bulb in minutes, and ended up trading in the last for a Milwaukee light. Whoever is making these is cutting massive corners, as I've found and it looks like many of the other reviewers. The design is nice and the light's external parts seem well built, but I didn't get more than about 35 hours of out of either one. Also, each one did have some minor part missing, which really speaks to manufacturing conditions. I have some Husky products that are outstanding, many of the tool bags are truly pro level quality, but they need to find another maker for their lights, these are garbage.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Comparison to halogen with light meter I measured the light output against my 500 watt halogen work light in an otherwise dark garage. Halogen at 3 feet: 1700 lux. Halogen at 6 feet: 600 - 700 lux. LED at 3 feet about 1000 lux. LED at 6 feet: 250 - 300 lux. (Some standard recommendations are: 200 lux general background lighting; 400 lux general office work; 600 lux for more detailed work. My 2-car garage/workshop has fourteen 4 foot fluorescent tubes overhead and generates about 200 - 250 lux at waist level. Double fluorescent over workbench yields about 600 - 700 lux at working height. The halogen pretty much lights up a small room - foyer, bathroom, etc. The LED lights up a work space - about half as large. It's a decent amount of light, but about half as much as the halogen. On the other hand, it is not as blinding to look into, more flexible with directionality, and one can work right on top of the light if necessary. I'm using it mainly to better light my wet-saw for a detailed tiling project. It can get up close w/o worrying about water splashing on hot glass (halogen or incandescent) Works well for that. Many have commented about the flimsy tripod & mounts. All of mine was working, but I can see that even a moderately heavy hand or frequent use could strip these grips & knobs right out. Plastic - and not even thick heavy plastic at that. Agree that the cord is too short, the lens should fold FORWARD, not backwards for lens protection. The light unit will come off of the tripod (by unscrewing a knob that takes way too long). The light can sit on a table top or flat surface to get right up to the work. (That close it yields 2000 to 5000 lux!) WIth careful use I think I'll get my money's worth. The light unit itself appears sufficiently rugged. No complaints there.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The Stand Is A Bit Flimsy If I could rate the LED light panel alone I would say that it exceeded my expectations in both brilliance and portability and would give this product 5 stars. Sad thing is that the stand is lacking in durability. I bought two of these units to use later that same evening at an outdoor event. I loved the portability, the fact that they stayed cool to touch and put out a brilliant white light that was very adjustable. I hated the fact that the plastic upper extension locking mechanism broke on both units easily. More specifically, they cracked at the very top of the lip. One almost completely off! The tripod legs could be use a little beefing up too. They seem too flimsy and wobbly. These units are much lighter than the average work lights of similar design using conventional incandescent lighting, but that doesn't mean that the stands should have been engineered without considering the fact that the word "work light" should have had some relevance in it's overall design. Time will tell if the led panels hold up to their promised longevity and durability. I love them so much that I'll keep the lights and for now modify them to fit on a couple of extra and more durable extendable tripod stands that I already have.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good light but the rest is ultra cheap and seems fragile. The light works well and it's easier to place and adjust than typical / classic heavy hal lights. The pole clamps are indeed plastic and feel very cheap, as does the entire stand frankly. The light itself including its housing outclasses the stand they decided to put it on. I wouldn't consider the stand rugged or durable in any way. Treat the thing carefully and it'll probably last awhile. If it ever falls over it'll probably break immediately. And yes definitely the cord on the light is too short and indicates (to me, again) they just paired it with a cheap stand design without considering the cord length vs the stand max extension height. But, that's easy to solve obviously. I only recommend it due to the light itself.
