What are the Size of the compartments in the build out box?

      Answer This Question

This box doesn't have compartments. (Answer above describes the parts organizer box.) Look for the same size box with a clear lid or the two-drawer module. Both of these have compartments and/or dividers.

Hello Grant, Thank you for reaching out to us. There are total of 11 compartments. 10 compartments are 3.75 x 2.75 x 2.75 and 1 compartment is 6 x 1.5 x 2.75. Regards,

For the mechanics toolset build out box, how easy is it to access the lower trays?
          ByAug 15, 2025
          2 Answers |
          Answer This Question

You will see the tool trays have a hand-size cutout. These arrange on the left and right edges of the box and allow easy lifting out. No issues for me.

          By|Nov 24, 2025

Overall, the usability is good. The upper trays need to be set aside carefully to access the lower trays. Main reason for this system, though is to keep mechanics tools organized. Way easier than scrounging around for loose sockets, though.

Is it possible to purchase the mechanics build out tool box only? I have boxes of Husky tools because the boxes, or hinges broke. I've looked everywhere with no luck.

                  Answer This Question

This box comes empty. The mechanics 270 tool set in four half-trays fits inside this box fairly nicely. AFAIK, they will not sell the empty tool trays. An expensive way to buy foam if you have all the sockets and wrenches. Or to save time cutting foam

Hello Wilbin, Thank you for reaching out to us. The Husky Build-Out Work Top can be placed on top of any Husky Build-Out full-size toolbox or crate. The wood insert can be removed by unscrewing the mounting screws located underneath the work top. Please note: any modification to the product will void the warranty. Regards,

Yes, you can. There is an offset so that the pull up handle does not interfere with a stack of modular boxes and drawers. It works well.

Compartments compartments compartments! Using this inexpensive addition to my existing Build Out large box, I was able to attach extra bins (available from Husky) to the outside rail and through a third-party purchase dividers on the inside to store all of the screws, odd tools, and knick-knacks that formally were spread out and unorganized in my garage workshop. I think this is a much better organization system than the most common type of toolboxes around.

                        More space than I expected!
I bought this on discount with the Husky two drawer build out also on discount. I was shockingly impressed with this product. I didn’t think it would be able to hold too much of value for its size but I could fit everything I needed to work on my fence minus the circular saw. So both drivers, two batteries, charger, bits case, large screw box, level, square, and hammer. Better product than I expected.

This case is the workhorse of the Husky Build-Out system. Compact, tough, and cheap enough you’ll want more than one. Plastic is thick and rigid. Latches bite down tight. You won’t bend the sides no matter how hard you load it. It’s got a removable half tray inside, otherwise one open bin. Perfect for building task kits — drywall repair, electrical odds, or a grab-and-go plumbing kit. Plenty of room for hand tools, but don’t expect tidy dividers like DeWalt. Specs are solid: IP65 rated, dust and water resistant. Load rating of 50 lbs. Stacks clean into the system with Husky’s dual lock release. Pass-through lock hole means one padlock can secure the whole tower. Now the trade-offs. Two-handed latches — slower than Milwaukee’s one-hand system. If this box is buried in your stack, you’ll have to unclip everything to get at it. That’s the price of the secure clamp design. The biggest headache isn’t the box — it’s stock. Husky’s been out of rolling dollies and drawer units for months. The value here comes from the system, and it’s hard to build a full set when half the line is missing from the shelves. Pros - Heavy-duty build at half the cost of PACKOUT or Dewalt ToughSystem > two hand latches are the most secure of all the systems i have tried - Great for dedicated task kits - Stacks secure, lockable Cons > Two-hand latches are less convenient than one hand systems like packout - Must unstack to open, i stack them pack them and rack them deep and high and cheap :) - No internal dividers - Stock issues across the system I’d still give it 5 stars. For the price, it’s hard to beat.

Best Value in the Husky Build-Out System
This crate is probably the cheapest piece in the Husky Build-Out system and honestly one of the best If I could buy 50 of them, I would Construction: Plastic is thick, rigid, doesn’t flex You can’t bend the sides even when it’s loaded heavy Feels like it’ll outlast most of the bins you see in big box stores Capacity: I use these for paints, parts, and odd jobs They swallow up more than you expect Strong enough to stack full without bowing Not like HDX or Sterilite bins that sag when you go high Organization: I keep dedicated crates for certain supplies—paint in one, tools in another Easy to grab, easy to haul, everything stays put Dimensions: Box is deep and square Stacks straight, no wobble I’ve gone floor to ceiling with them (wouldn’t recommend for safety, but they’ll take it) Modularity: Locks into the Husky system, stacks tight Rolls perfect on the caster base—if you can find one Casters have been out of stock nine months You can also sit the crate on a wheeled box, but it’s not quite the same Bottom line This crate is inexpensive, durable, and useful Best value piece in the whole system

The perfect tool box that goes in the back on the truck, sub, car, etc.
Husky Build-out! A strong, durable tool storage box that can withstand rainy or dusty climates. Perfect for traveling and keeping things organized in a secure box that's not just limited to carrying tools, but also holds whatever I want.

Great addition to my Husky kit that goes in the back of my truck for camping trips. Good size to store my corsless impact, sockets and emergency tire repair kit. Wish the rolling dolly would come back in stock.

This review is for the Deep Organizer, product is great.
The Deep Organizer is very nicely made and works very well. It would be nice if you can move the skinny bin to different locations but it matches plastic models on the lid and looks like it would not seal correctly, although you can force it closed. The only flaw is none of the bins are very long, but I solved that with 3D printed bins. Link to the files here if you would like to print: https://www.printables.com/model/1366878-bins-for-build-out-22-in-modular-tool-storage-deep It works very well in the Husky Build-out system. It would be nice if there were other bin options or dividers for the bins. Overall, it can hold a lot of items in the bins.

Unexpected jewel of my buildout system
Ten out of ten, I would recommend this organizer. I bought is on a wimp, and it has become the crown jewel of my build out system. Quite literally, I keep it on the top of my buildout and it go with me where ever I take my pack out. I have fill it up with misc. stuff from various jobs and it has proved very handy to have on hand when I need to improvise a quick fix. It has really high end build quality, I don’t worry about leaving it out in the sun or rain. I also don’t worry about all my stuff getting mixed up due to a broken compartment when I am carrying around the organizer at different orientations. It really has been a great addition to my tool boxes. Great size, great quality.
