Q:Can this be used to cut a metal closet rod? I believe it's made of either aluminum or steel (it's a closetmaid rod purchased at home depot)

Answer This Question
A:Â It is not designed to cut metal. This item can cut up to 3/4" PVC, and up to 1-1/8" Flexible tubing. The blade will fail if used to cut metal. Hope this helps!!

Answer This Question
A:Â I would test first, this is a very sharp blade but it is also an anvil type cutting motion. If you take it slow it may work for you, but if you rush it you may compress the pipe and crushing can occur. Hope this helps!!!

Used it to cut 1/4" PVC pipe for my irrigation. Used it 2 twice. Cut mostly straight. No jagged edges. If you have weak hands, it's gonna be hard, as this is not ratcheting.

Great for PTEG
Works great for PTEG hard tubes for PC liquid cooling. With a little practice, the cuts are nice, straight & smooth. You might not even need to finish the ends, but probably should just to be safe.
PSA: Home Depot DOES carry replacement blades, despite what one of the other reviewers said. The replacement blades can be found by searching any of the following:

I used this to cut 1/2" and 3/4" pex. At first it made perfectly square cuts with little effort but after about 20 or so cuts I started having to apply more force to make the cuts and was having a hard time keeping the cuts straight. After closer inspection of the tool I noticed that there was a lot of play between the two handles at the screw hinge and the blade shifted sideways as it was cutting. I made sure that the screw was tight but that didn't help. Home Depot should have used higher quality materials because there is no way that I should have been having the problems I had especially since this tool is designed to cut PVC and I was only cutting pex. I've attached a picture showing how far the blade moves sideways when cutting. If you are looking for a disposable tool for just a few cuts then this will work but don't expect it to last very long.

Small footprint to work inside walls. Very sharp and efficient. I used this to fix a 1/2" PEX pipe that had been accidentally drilled into. Worked like a charm!

I used it to cut small pex supply line, and 1-inch rubber hose. It makes a nice clean cut, and it's a lot safer than trying to make cuts with a utility knife.

They cut through Pex ok but I had a problem with cutting straight to crimp the fittings on properly
The SharkBite Connection System offers an extensive line of barb fittings plus manifolds, supports and tools for both clamp and crimp ring PEX tubing installations. When a water distribution project requires low cost materials, a system that utilizes PEX tubing, barb fittings and manifolds is a good choice. In addition to being cost effective, these systems simplify the installation compared to copper or rigid plastic pipe systems that use solder or glue for fitting joints. The SharkBite PEX/Barb System includes everything needed, from pressure regulators and valves with barb connectors, to chrome plated stops for hooking up fixtures.
