Q:Can two people use this to cut a dense foam mattress? I need to convert a king size mattress to full size. The cut doesn't have to be perfectly smooth.
by|Jan 4, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  While the Husky PVC Cable Saw is primarily designed for cutting PVC pipes and cables, it may not be the most efficient tool for cutting a dense foam mattress. However, it's possible to use it with two people to cut through the foam, though the result may not be perfectly smooth due to the nature of the tool. You might want to consider other tools more specifically suited for cutting dense foam for a cleaner and more precise result. Still, the saw could potentially assist in the process with patience and care.

Q:Can this kind of saw cut off a 3-inch iron drain pipe?
    by|Dec 28, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  The Husky PVC Cable Saw is specifically designed for cutting PVC and other plastic pipes. While it may be able to cut through softer metals, it might not be ideal for cutting a 3-inch iron drain pipe due to its hardness and material composition. Using this saw for iron pipes might cause damage to the tool or result in inefficient cutting. For iron pipes, it's recommended to use tools designed specifically for cutting metal pipes to ensure effectiveness and safety.

          Heat Cut
I used it to cut 2" ABS pipe. It melts the plastic as it cuts. Unfortunately the melted plastic bonded back together before I finished the cut (every time). It cuts as promised in very tight spaces but you might need to wedge some material in the cut as you cut so it wont bond back together.

Used it to trim down scurs on my goats. Worked awesome, but it took a little more effort than I expected.

            Good Value For the Money
Had to cut through some OLD pvc pipe overhead and this saw came in very handy for that. No noise, no vibration. Word of advice though with any wire saw, use a file or bladed saw to make a starting notch for this to rest in. It’ll make your life a little easier and the wire won’t wander around on your pipe while youre starting your cut. Side note, there is a smell associated with cutting PVC pipe, especially with this style saw since you’re melting the PVC in order to cut it. Just bear that in mind

The cable saw did cut through my pipe but I guess I was moving it too fast because it gummed up. When I stopped to regrip, the plastic welded itself back together and I couldn't move it anymore. Ended up having to us a hack saw and then a sawzall to break it loose.

After reading some negative comments I was not confident this will work out for me. The 1.5 inch PVC which I needed to cut was in a position which I could not use any other cutting method without damaging the new installed floor tiles and baseboards. To my surprise this Husky PVC cable saw cut the 1.5 inch PVC like it was butter! To begin the cut I slowly began cutting with constant pulling pressure. Then once a grove began to cut the PVC I then increased the pulling speed.
