About This Product

Inner-Tite Thermal Cut-offs are engineered to disconnect the power to heating systems when room temperature exceeds 165°F. When the heating system shuts off, flow of fuel oil or gas is discontinued eliminating the possibility of heater damage, a fire, or acceleration of an existing fire. Required by law in some states. Inner-Tite Thermal Cut-offs are economical, easy to install, and a prudent back-up to existing built-in heating system controls.

Q:What States. Require these Switches above furnaces or boilers ?
by|Nov 2, 2022

Answer This Question

A:  I am sorry I checked with the manufacturer and they do not publish a definitive list of what states require the use of an electrical fireomatic by code. It is probably no surprise that they are of the opinion that it should be used everywhere. However they did add some helpful context that maybe helpful to you. All the states in the New England and New York both require its use and enforce compliance. Outside of that area it gets more sporadic. Some states have it in the electrical code, some the plumbing and others as part of fire prevention rules. Also some in some places it is municipally required even though it may not be part of an official state code. They suggested if you are uncertain if it is required you should contact it the municipal inspector having jurisdiction in your town or a local qualified licensed professional in your area.

Q:Are there all 15amp or does it come in 20amp, furnace runs on 20am, should i change furnace to 15amp
    by|Mar 6, 2021

    Answer This Question

A:  The ones made by inner-tite are clearly labeled 15 amp. So I called Beckett Corp to see what there electrical fireomatics are rated for. They too are rated for 15 amps. I asked the technician what trades people do on larger burners. He said that typically if the burner needs amperage beyond 15 there will be two separate power supplies. One for the motor and a separate one at lower voltage and amperage for the control strategy.

Q:How do you install this i try to connect one wire to neutral and the ather to hot but it trips the the circuit breaker when i turn the switch on
      by|Feb 9, 2021
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  The breaker is tripping, as it should, because you connected positive and negative together; this is called a short and it is dangerous and could lead to deadly consequences. Just as when you wire a light switch, you do not bring positive and negative to the light switch because positive and negative do not meet in the light switch. They meet in the light bulb and it is that short taking place in the light bulb filament that causes it to glow. Negative goes by the light switch to the destination; aka the light bulb. The positive side of the circuit is wired in and out of the light switch. And it is the light switch that interrupts the flow of positive current. It is the same with this switch. The positive side of the circuit is interrupted by the switch not both both the positive and negative. So when this switch is wired correctly you would bring the positive side of the circuit into it and the positive side of the circuit would continue out of it to its destination.
