Q:I need to know this information because the drain hole dimensions Stated in the dimensions portion of this products Description only say 3.5". If I cut a hole 3.5 in² at the bottom of the sink i'm designing And just insert this product it looks like a portion of the top of the product will stick out causing water pooling Around the edges. I need to know the depths of the rough opening to build something to support this product. As well as making the top of this product flush with the bottom of the sink

Q:This has a couple questions I need answered. So anyone who answers this with a IDK answer, please just pass this question. Now first off, I have a composite granite sink and I was going to get the Kraus Ansel faucet in vibrant stainless steel, and I want to match the drain baskets with the faucet. So is this the same stainless steel look as the faucet and will it fit a composite sink? Also what would be the best match for a air gap in stainless steel since Kraus doesn't make them? The last thing I want is to have a hoshposh of different tints of stainless steel. Thank you

A:  Hi Leuzier13, Our Stainless Steel strainers would match any of our Stainless Steel faucets and would fit within any of our sinks. However, our Spot Free Stainless Steel is slightly different. If interested, we would also be happy to provide you with direct visuals of any product if it would help. Please feel free to cal l us at 800-775-0703 or email us at customerservice@kraususa.com and we will gladly provide you with any visuals you would need. Best, Mike Kraus USA

          Stainless Steel Strainer gasket
I installed two Kraus sinks in my new kitchen about two years ago. I love them even though the square corners in their bottoms require frequent cleaning unlike on the sinks that are more rounded in the bottom. On the main sink in my kitchen, the secure gasket on the strainer has worn out and started falling apart. I wanted to replace it, but could not find any rubber gaskets on this website. I feel that it is not right to replace the whole strainer just because of the rubber gasket wears out so quickly.

Not all stainless steel. Screw is rusting already
Only in service for about six months. I used plumbers putty instead of the rubber gasket because I'm old fashioned and I wanted a tight finished look in the sink bottom. However, this is a "shell" design and you technically would not need putty or the gasket. That is because any water that gets under the flange goes right into the shell of the unit, which is sealed to the drain. So instead of the water seal being in the bottom of the sink under the flange, the actual water seal is underneath the sink where the shell of this unit makes contact to the underside of the sink. As far as the design, it's great... this deep basket catches everything very well. As far as the shell, leaks are less likely, but I believe you might get crud or slime buildup inside the shell. The shell is hollow between the inside metal pieces and the outside plastic pieces. Gravity takes water down, but if crud or slime decides to stay inside that shell and grow, nothing would be able to stop it or flush it out. You would have to take it apart and manually clean. As you can see from my photo, the screw-nut inside that holds everything together is starting to get rust pits. This is very disappointing and this part should also be made from stainless steel. I wonder how long before it’s so rusted it either falls apart or cannot be unscrewed.

Thank you for your feedback. Sorry to hear that our BST-1 didn't meet your expectations. Our drains are constructed of stainless steel but do have some plastic parts such as the tail piece and plastic nut. I would also be happy to assist any way I can and offer a replacement strainer along with answer any additional questions you may have. Please feel free to reach out to us at 800-775-0703 or email us at customerservice@kraususa.com. Happy to assist. Best, Mike Kraus USA
              Love this strainer!
My Kraus sink came with a deep strainer basket on one side, however due to my existing plumbing, I was not able to use it (depth exceeded plumbing pipes). So I ordered a duplicate Kraus strainer for the other sink. What I like is that the strainer doesn't "lock" unless you push down in the center. In other words, it can spin 360 degrees, but doesn't drop into the lock position unless you push it down. Because Kraus makes such nice products, it's nice and shiny and is super easy to clean.

              Low quality fastener!
The screw that held the basket together rusted and broken in half while I was doing dishes. Needless to say, it was a huge mess...

Terrible design. creates multiple safety issues
I recently a Kraus sink with square drains installed, and was surprised to discover that sendin food into the garbage disposal had now become a multi-step process, which includes removing the adaptor by inserting your fingers INTO the disposal, which then exposes the entire disposal. Not only is this unsafe and cumbersome, if you do not replace the adaptor prior to running the disposal, food particles splash up through the wide open drain hole, spreading food contaminants around the sink. With any other design, you can safely use a utensil to guide the food into the drain while running the disposal. I do not trust this design with my children. It is unsafe to expose the blades of the disposal, unsafe to require your hand to enter the disposal to use it, unsafe to have to excessively move parts in order to get items with potential bacteria down the drain and then cover it up so the bacteria does not splash throughout the kitchen. I NEVER would have let my contractor install a sink with square drains had I known about this ridiculous design. To top it all off, my brand new scratch-resistant sink has a scratch from my fingernail, and it is impossible to keep clean. Water spots everywhere and it always looks dirty.

                    Stopper won't fit any more.
Love the sink and the strainer basket, but now the stopper wont go in due to the gasket stretching out from pulling it out. Do you sell a replacement gasket ?

                      Square sink drain is slow
The square drain that came with our new Krause sink is very slow to drain. It’s no match to the round deep basket style kraus drain. And there’s no alternative to change it with as no other square drain can be found
