What is difference between ST-1 strainer and the ST-1B Strainer?.

Answer

Hi Eagle, Thanks for your inquiry. The only difference is the screw on our ST-1B is 1/4" longer as it is designed to be used with our Granite Sink. All other aspects between these items are identical. Please feel free to reach out to us at 800-775-0703 or email us at customerservice@kraususa.com with any questions. Happy to assist. Answer

Hi Gg, Thanks for your reaching out. I'd be happy to assist. The lid on our ST-3 can be locked into place by pushing down which will keep water in the sink. If it remains pushed down, the water will not drain. Please feel free to call us at 800-775-0703 or email us at customerservice@kraususa.com so we can look into your concerns further and assist you directly. Best, John Kraus USA

No, you have to order the strainer. It also comes with a strainer basket and I thought I order that but didn't. I was so anxious to get the sink installed I did not exchange it. This one is just fine.

How do you install the St-3?

Asked by 2U4Roy September 2, 2016

Answer

Hello, Thank you for your inquiry. The strainer is installed with the white gasket on top of the sink, black gasket on the bottom. If you want you can use plumber's putty in place of the white gasket, but you cannot use both. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thank you, Kraus USA

Is the tail piece 1.5" diameter? Is the outside diameter of the top ring 4.5"

I don't know as I did not install it, how ever it seems like a standard size to fit standard ink drains.

Stainless Steel Strainer gasket
I installed two Kraus sinks in my new kitchen about two years ago. I love them even though the square corners in their bottoms require frequent cleaning unlike on the sinks that are more rounded in the bottom. On the main sink in my kitchen, the secure gasket on the strainer has worn out and started falling apart. I wanted to replace it, but could not find any rubber gaskets on this website. I feel that it is not right to replace the whole strainer just because of the rubber gasket wears out so quickly.

Not all stainless steel. Screw is rusting already
Only in service for about six months. I used plumbers putty instead of the rubber gasket because I'm old fashioned and I wanted a tight finished look in the sink bottom. However, this is a "shell" design and you technically would not need putty or the gasket. That is because any water that gets under the flange goes right into the shell of the unit, which is sealed to the drain. So instead of the water seal being in the bottom of the sink under the flange, the actual water seal is underneath the sink where the shell of this unit makes contact to the underside of the sink. As far as the design, it's great... this deep basket catches everything very well. As far as the shell, leaks are less likely, but I believe you might get crud or slime buildup inside the shell. The shell is hollow between the inside metal pieces and the outside plastic pieces. Gravity takes water down, but if crud or slime decides to stay inside that shell and grow, nothing would be able to stop it or flush it out. You would have to take it apart and manually clean. As you can see from my photo, the screw-nut inside that holds everything together is starting to get rust pits. This is very disappointing and this part should also be made from stainless steel. I wonder how long before it’s so rusted it either falls apart or cannot be unscrewed.

Thank you for your feedback. Sorry to hear that our BST-1 didn't meet your expectations. Our drains are constructed of stainless steel but do have some plastic parts such as the tail piece and plastic nut. I would also be happy to assist any way I can and offer a replacement strainer along with answer any additional questions you may have. Please feel free to reach out to us at 800-775-0703 or email us at customerservice@kraususa.com. Happy to assist. Best, Mike Kraus USA
Love this strainer!
My Kraus sink came with a deep strainer basket on one side, however due to my existing plumbing, I was not able to use it (depth exceeded plumbing pipes). So I ordered a duplicate Kraus strainer for the other sink. What I like is that the strainer doesn't "lock" unless you push down in the center. In other words, it can spin 360 degrees, but doesn't drop into the lock position unless you push it down. Because Kraus makes such nice products, it's nice and shiny and is super easy to clean.

Strainer fits well. Cost is a bit pricy and may be due to fact that there is not option to purchase without drain pipe fittings needed for a new install.
