I received the 7 in. Ergocast Rafter Square as a back-up to my old aluminum square. I use a square primarily for marking stair risers and marking straight cuts. The Ergocast rafter square is lightweight and hard to misplace as it is brilliant orange in color. The bright color is my favorite feature for this tool as I have a really bad habit of laying tools down at the job-site and temporarily misplacing them. The graduations are molded into the plastic as are the graduations on my old aluminum square. This is a must have for basic carpentry. This is a good tool, but my only concern is that it’s made of plastic. Will it last as long as my aluminum square? Only time will tell. I’ve had my old square for more than 20 years and it still does the job. As I stated, the Ergocast square is a good tool for the job and I would recommend it as a spare.

Great product. This lost a star from me due to the fact that the scribe guide is not as good as others. This one only has the notches under the measurements, others that I own have the scribe guide in a vertical location as well as another one along the measurements on the long side of the square. I used this mark several lines and felt the notch was a little too small to accommodate my pencils, works well with the thinner ones. I also use this to make square cuts with my Circular saw, did a great job of remaining stable due to it's composition. This is a great square it just lacks a few features that my other squares have.

This rafter square is made of a hardened polyurethane material that should hold up to years of use. What's good about this material is that it won't rust and will wear well. The gradients include the typical inch, angle, common top cut and hip value top cut. All the markings are deep enough to easily read even after the tool gets dirty or oily. The gradients are repeated on both sides of the tool. One of the sides has a base that's wide enough to apply a clamp if necessary. An important, modernized tool to have in your tool box no matter what type of work you're into.

I have a larger rafter square, but sometimes it is a bit big for the project at hand. The smaller rafter square is much easier to use when it's just a 2x4 that you need to mark for cutting. I like the bigger rafter square for marking things like plywood; not much of a straight line left to finish on the 4 foot side. The smaller rafter square will get a lot of use on the smaller things like 2x4s.

I recently picked up a 7-inch Ergocast Rafter Square. The Ergocast Rafter Square is sold at bargain price. I’ve never used a rafter square before obtaining this tool so my comments about the tool are from an amateur preceptive. The gradations are molded into the square and are visible in good light with no shadows. It would be easier if the numbers and gradations were somehow filled in with white ink/paint. The detents where a pencil lead can be placed when scribing a line parallel line to the edge of a board are not provided, so to accomplish this task is somewhat tedious holding the pencil at the same point while scribing the line. The angle calculation, hip-val and common cut marks are similar to other brands of rafter squares. In hind sight, a much better-quality rafter square can be purchased for only a few dollar more. For a beginning amateur like me with a small project the Ergocast Rafter Square should work just fine.

Really nice, lightweight speed square. I have an aluminum one that I am always misplacing (sort of blends in with my other tools) so I decided on this one because of its color (knowing it would stand out). I was originally a little concerned because I wasn’t sure of what it was made of; however, when I received it I found it to be made of a hard composite that was tough and much stronger than I expected. It is light, but with a really good feel to it. It’s thick and that also aids in it being sturdy. I found it to be as accurate as my other square and easy to use. Only downside is that the gradations (which are molded in) can be hard to see; however a little paint or white-out helps to make them stand out and makes this e very easy tool to use. A great item for the price; I recommend getting one even if you already have another, as an extra around the shop is a bonus when you are in the middle of a project.

This is a handy square for marking and making straight and angle cuts for do it yourself projects. This square has many of the features of a metal professional speed square at a fraction of the cost and weight. Like it that this square is plastic versus metal to avoid marring delicate surfaces such as vinyl trim boards when sliding this square across them. Also that this square has easy to read molded in markings that do not wear off. This square works great as a guide for making straight and 45 degree angle cuts with a circular saw across boards by holding the raised edge of the square snug against a long edge of a work piece and guiding the fence of a circular saw against the edge of the square with the square aligned on a work piece where a work piece needs to be cut.

7 in. Ergocast Rafter Square Perfect tool for when you need a lightweight easy to use rafter square. Use for marking and cutting of rafters, stairs or any basic angle. All gradations are molded-in so they will not wear off during repeated use. It is exactly as described above. Plastic and light weight, easy to read numbers. I have a couple different rafter squares 2 plastic and 1 metal they all seem to do the job they are supposed to do. My metal one is black so when it's in my truck it's hard to find amongst all the junk i have in there. This one is red and will stand out so it will easy to spot. I'm not a framer so I won't be using it for stairs and rafters. I mainly use them for marking 45 degree and straight lines on wood then use it as a straight edge for my saw to ride against. Real happy with this one highly recommend it.

The 7 in. Ergocast Rafter Square is extremely light weight, has solid and clear markings and offers a very usable and easy square for quick measurement and angle checks and work. At less than 1\2 the weight of my aluminum square, find it is more user-friendly while providing excellent durability and accuracy on site. I would have liked the embossed markings to have a contrast color scheme, but for the price, it offers an excellent value in a product that should last through many tough job task!

As far as speed squares go, I normally use a aluminum one for framing, and a plastic one for finish work. This one is a new composite type material, and feels quite durable. The advantage of this square is that its very light weight. Every ounce matters in that tool bag! Also, when working indoors, it will not scratch any surfaces should you drop it or slide it across a hardwood floor. It has the standard hip/valley numbers, commons, degrees and a 6" ruler down one side. All are engraved into the tool and are quite easy to read. I have personally never used a Kapro tool before this, but if this is any indication, they are in the market with affordable, but also quality products.
