Can this be cut down for smaller opening?

Pretty good, but not user-friendly

I used to have one in my last truck that I could just twist to tighten. This one you have to ratchet with the lever to secure. It will hold your cargo securely, but it’s not as easy to use. You pretty much have to climb into the bed of your truck to tighten it. Although the photo shows the ratchet on one side, in reality when you extend it to the width of your truck it ends up being in the middle where you can’t reach it from standing next to your truck.You have to climb in the bed to secure it. Also it’s not clear how to release the latch and tighten it properly to close and lock the latch. Still it’s better than nothing and it holds things down well. I was able to haul a 14’ ladder in the 5’ bed of my Chevy Colorado using this bar and a few bungee cords.

Very Disappointing--the pads on this don't grip well on bed liners, which is a problem since pretty much every pickup truck has bed liners. Both times I've tried to use this it ends up sliding around the bed with the stuff I was trying to keep stationary (see picture). The mechanism is also not great. I still haven't figured out how to easily collapse it back down for storage. Also, when you put it in to hold stuff, you have to be in the bed of the truck because the ratcheting adjustment is in the middle of the bed.

Got this to replace a cargo bar that worked on friction. Once it got something on it (not sure what), there was no more friction!
So far this works well. If you get it real tight, it can be hard to undo to remove it. Pay attention to the pictures that show you how to tighten, loosen, and slide it.
