You should start at 1’ as most homes have baseboard against the wall. But yes you should start at 1’ and go to 6’.

Unfortunately no these are mass produced in the design shown.
We thought about hanging ours up a couple feet higher from the ground to be able to measure taller heights. Then glue on numbers (check Hobby Lobby) to replace the 1 through 5 on the board. Hope this helps spark some ideas for you!
Is there anything on the back side? Could you decorate the back instead of the front?
Please see the picture of the slot on the back side of the Growth Chart Stick. The slot is 2.25 inches long and the circles on the ends are .25 inches wide.
There is a keyhole slot in the back towards the top that is used for hanging this on the wall. Besides that it is blank.

Their short answer is probably because it is six feet long and the shipping cost would be high to ship something that long/awkward shape. I understand that you still pay a shipping charge (if you are under the free shipping threshold), but that wouldn't cover the cost of actually shipping it. Hence, the increase of the price of the actual item online.

I had to measure the floor moulding and cut that off the bottom to mount it to the wall. Overall very good.
