per the directions
I was using a Woolster Pro brush which had dried latex paint collecting around the upper edge. So per your directions I placed the brush in the bag for two days and this is what I found. No I would not recommend this product.

Destroyed my brush.
It ate at the bristles and ruined a fairly expensive brush. No indication on the package explaining not for certain types of brushes or anything to that effect.

Alyssa - We regret that you had this experience with the Paint Brush Rescue. Without knowing how long the brushes were left in the cleaner, what type of bristles the brushes were, and what type of paint or product was on the brushes, it is difficult to determine why this happened. This product is not recommended for natural bristles or artist brushes. It is a very strong solvent that is intended to remove dried, hard to remove paint. If brushes are left too long or oversaturated, it can affect the glue even when using any product. We always recommend testing any new product first (on one brush in this case) before using it on the entire area or on all of the brushes. Please call our Klean Strip helpline at 1-800-398-3892 if we can better assist you, Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm CST.

Alkaline Hydrolysis
The negative reviews demonstrate why people need to stay awake in their high school chemistry class! Sodium hydroxide is a strong alkali. I used it to dissolve hair when I was doing drug testing. It is called "alkaline hydrolysis." If a user plunks a "natural bristle" brush into the solution they made by adding water to the dry product, and if they leave it in the Klean-Strip solution too long, of course it will destroy the brush! It shouldn't affect nylon bristles or other synthetics. The sodium silicate in the product forms silica gel with water. Do you understand the word "gel?" It means it forms a jelly-like mass around the brush fibers. In strong alkaline solutions, it is more soluble, meaning less gel. I think its purpose in Klean-Strip is to adsorb water and bind the paint residue from the fibers. If the mixture becomes too gooey, it means the sodium hydroxide has all reacted and the solution is near neutral pH. In such a case, what you MIGHT try is to dip and agitate the brush in household ammonia. Since the gel is more soluble in alkali, that should eliminate it, allowing you to flush it away.

We regret that your brushes were destroyed. I am not sure what type of brushes you were using or what type of paint was on them or the conditions in which it was used. We do not recommend using the Paint Brush Rescue on Natural fiber brushes. We are normally known for how well our products perform and regret that we missed the mark. Please contact our Consumer Care team at 1-800-398-3892 if you would like to discuss this further.
Brushes Destroyed
Following the instructions on the packaging to clean some long-stained oil paint brushes, I returned to swollen, gelatinous globs with almost no ferrule left to hold the messes in place. This product has some positive reviews, so I can't believe this happens to every brush it's used on, but there should be much more information provided on what brushes this is safe to use on. Having to pay many times over what I bought the product for to replace all the brushes has left me personally preferring stained brushes.
