I am not full time in the construction business, but quality tool are nice. I use rebar for many things, including making rebar loops to go over my blueberries, tomato trellis, even beaver trapping stakes. This hickey makes the job easy. The handle is very solid, the right size, the head material is strong and it bends 3/8” rebar and #5 just about as easy. I am starting a footing for a greenhouse, so this hickey will get lots of use. I expect to get years of use from this bender

SUMMARY: A GREAT TOOL FOR REBAR WORK. BACKGROUND: I use rebar for several things around the shop and house including concrete work. It has always been a hassle bending it. The chance to try out the Klein number 2 hickey was too good to pass up. FIT AND FINISH: Nothing fancy, this is a rebar bender, it’s beefy. The head is fairly massive and is one piece with the neck and handle. The handle is also very sturdy, heavier than black iron pipe. At 40 inches in length to tool looks capable of doing the job. OPERATION: Using the hickey is pretty easy. Put the rebar in the head, hold the rebar so it can’t fall out (a little tension on the handle works well,) pull and push the handle to slightly past the desired bend angle. Klein’s documentation says the hickey is for use for #5 rebar (5/8 inch.) The opening is ¾ inch, but I doubt it could bend anything that thick. I used it to bend some #4 rebar (½ inch) with no problem at all. If you are doing multiple bends in a piece you have to make sure to keep the bend directions right, just like bending conduit. SUMMARY: This is a great addition to my diy tool box. It will make my next concrete job much easier. PROS: Sturdy, easy to use

I am more of a do it yourself person and this steel rebar hickey bends works pretty good. I was able to bend the rebar with ease. The handle feels a little bulky in my hand but I am a smaller person. I would imagine this would work great for someone who is taller. (I am 5'7). The base where the rebar bends is very solid and feels a little heavy. I would recommend when storing this to keep it away from a lot of foot traffic in your garage or storage shed as I tripped over the head. The only con I can say is that I wish there was a guide or a directed web site on how to use this tool.

This 40 in. long tool is used to bend reinforcement steel bar up to 5/8’ in diameter. It is really heavy duty and designed to apply sufficient leverage to bend rebar at various angles, typically for installing concrete flat work, as well as foundation grade beams, footings and tilt-up walls. It also could be used for DIY projects for making or reinforcing a yard structure or even making yard sculptures. It is a great tool to have on hand for any project that requires bending steel bars from 3/8’ up to 5/8”. This lightweight, yet heavy duty rebar hickey offers optimal leverage to get a lot of jobs done.

There are probably other ways to shape rebar than use a tool like this, but most assuredly, they are inferior. What you need is a massive hook and a long pipe connected so that you can grab the steel and lean into it. That's what this is and it's perfect for the job. If you are doing concrete work, you must have this in your truck and short of leaving it somewhere, it will last absolutely forever. There are a couple of sizes that you might want. This is the bigger one that handles #5 (5/8") rebar. It will also handle #4 which is a more typical size for residential work, but you never know. Sometimes, bigger is better. Klein makes great tools and this is an example that you should have and will take you many miles down the road.

In 1857 Mathias Klein Immigrated to the United States and went west to set up shop in Chicago's downtown business district, Perhaps the only job Mathias Klein ever did "halfway" involved the first tool he ever made, which was — in fact — one half pair of pliers. A broken side-cutting pliers was brought to his forge shop by a telegraph lineman. Mathias Klein forged and finished a new half for the tool, riveted it to the old, and the lineman went on his way. Shortly thereafter the lineman returned. The other original half of the tool had now broken and Mathias Klein forged the second pliers half, producing the first complete Klein pliers. So Klein has been around 162 years and you don't stay that long without making good quality tools. This rebar hickey is no exception, good length to give you leverage to easily bend rebar as well as a nice hefty weight that lets you know its solid the second you pick it up. Great for bending 45's 90's or any angle in between. and you can be guaranteed this is a tool you never have to buy again because it broke. good tools that last forever are always worth the money spent on them.

I'm a home handyman and hobbyist woodworker and very inexperienced when it comes to anything to do with concrete. I'd never noticed this type of tool. So the question became how to test the two tools sent to me for review. A neighbor has a slab for a sun room with some threaded bolt material sticking out that will be used to bolt boards to and he agreed to try it as I watched. This bar over one of these bolts bent it back and forth easily. The bar itself is simple, seems sturdy, and is light.

We do a lot of home renovations and concrete work us part of the work we do. Anyone dealing with rebar knows it can be extremely difficult to bend. With this tool it makes bending rebar extremely easy considering #5 rebar is extremely strong! The 40” steel handle can take all the job site punishment too. Made in the USA by Klein tools and carry a lifetime warranty!
