Chain Replacement Part, Fish Rod Attachment

Finally have the right tool for the job. These are great when you can't get a fishing rod or fish tape in an area and usually down a wall with obstacles. I have been using jack chain with a heavy object attached for decades but the chain can just fold over onto itself requiring me to pull it back to try again. This one is a replacement that comes with a Klein set. I just got enlightened on the use of glow rods a few years ago and now am dependent on them. These essential attachments make my job easier and safer.

I got this for my Klein Glow Rod set. I lost the hook and the nipple piece. This chain is very durable and solid which is important given it will be used to drag wires and cords through studs and walls. I was actually pretty surprised at home thick this thing is. The only complaint I can make is that its a little difficult to connect the chain to the the loop because its so small and I have fat finger syndrome. See the attached picture. Other than that, this is a high quality part and should last.

This tool is an accessory made by Klein Tools. It is made from a steel ball chain like the old pull chains found on lamps and ceiling fans. It has on one end a threaded piece that screws into my Klein fiberglass fish rod and on the other end is a small eyelet. In between is a length of ball chain about two feet in length. I have used it within a wall cavity to drop down the wall and retrieve it with a magnet through a hole behind the floor base molding. I then can attach HDMI or RG6 cable to pull up and out the wall for TV mounting.

Nice attachment for fishing wire though walls. Made out of stainless steel. Well built chain, doesn't feel like its going to break anytime soon. 26 inches long. Perfect for attaching the magnet to get into places you may not be able to reach or have no ability to see. Great attachment to have in your tool arsenal, and at a great price as well.

This chain replacement is the exact fit for the one I lost down an open sewer pipe. Lesson learned was that as always, one must be careful when trying to fish wires in new construction. The magnet head I also have was unable to grab it. I don't know if it was too far down or if it would not catch because of being stainless or chromed and the magnet would just not stick to it. This is a really handy tool.

As an electrical contractor who works solo, this and the other available Klein Tools fish rod accessories certainly make my life a bit easier. Works well in many situations, although this chain in combination with the Klein fish rod magnet accessory does not make for a strong enough attraction when dealing with exterior walls full of fiberglass insulation. I have a feeling that the alloy in this chain is probably the issue there, as the magnet is fairly strong. Still, it is definitely worth having. Item is also available as part of the 7-piece Klein Tools fish rod attachment set, which is a better value.

Another great add-on accessory for your Klein fish and glow rods, which pro's and DIYers should have in their toolbox! The chain be can lowered into a wall cavity and dragged with the magnet from the outside of the sheetrock. The chain can also be fished through those really tight spots with or without the magnet attachment making wire routing and pulling easier. The beaded 26" chain can suspend a 5lb sledge hammer without stretching a single link. If you find yourself exerting more than 5 lbs pounds of force to pull wiring through a wall cavity, the chain or wire may have gotten snagged, thus you should consider an alternative route.

This 26" metal ball chain attachment #56514 is for use on Klein Tool fish and glow rods. The metal chain attachment has a male threaded stud end that easily screws onto the Klein fish and glow rods. When attached to the Klein rod, the metal chain can be lowered down into a wall cavity and then I use the Klein magnet accessory #56515 on another Klein rod so the metal chain can be attracted to the magnet so the rod can be pulled forward through the wall cavity so I can easily fish a wire in blind and tight wall cavities.
