These connectors are very easy to use. You don't need a special crimper if you are only doing a few connectors. You can easily trim the wire with a sharp knife. The pass thru design allows you to maintain the wire twist for lower loss and also allows you to double check the wire order before you crimp.
Overall an easy to use product. The only downside is needing a special crimper if you plan to make a lot of connections.
Initial viewing:
The packaging is clean, efficient and practical. The way that it can be opened by cutting just the two pieces of tape on the sides of the package, keeping the package intact, and able to store the plugs until they are needed, is great. Another perk of the packaging, is the way the instructions are stored, snapped into the back of the package.
The individual plugs are well made, with the opening for the cable tapering towards the eight (8) individual guide slots of the contacts. A feature that should make feeding the wires into the plug easier than some plugs I’ve seen, that have no guide slots even. Needless to say, I placed the no guide slot plugs in the can.
Physical Installation:
When working with CAT5e solid core cabling, arranging the wires in the desired sequence and feeding them into the plugs is pretty straight forward and even a little bit easier than standard plugs, because you don’t have to worry about the one wire that always get cut by the stripper See attached photos.
But when working with stranded wires, it is significantly harder, due to the flexibility of the wires and the greater number of twists per inch, that make it hard to straighten the individual wires, to feed them into the plugs. My rule of thumb for cabling, is for solid core lines attaching the plugs is a snap, for stranded wires, buy them with the plugs attached.
I also found that if you do not have the specific tool designed by Klein Tools (Klein Tools
Pass Thru Modular Crimper Model # VDV226-110) to work with these plugs, a standard crimping tool will work for attaching the plugs. You will need to strongly push the CAT5e cables into the plug, where the sheath of the cable is deep into the plug. Then using a standard wire cutter, evenly cut the wires as close as possible to the plug, and then, pull the wire back, so the cut ends are now in the plug, and then crimp it.
Initial Testing:
I first tested the system as it exists, a WIFI connected laptop at 144 Mbps to a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router that is connected to the internet via an Arris SB6190 cable modem. The router is connected to the modem using a CAT5 cable, resulting in:
Average Download speed: 62.42 Mbps
Average Upload speed: 5.98 Mbps (carrier restrictions)
I then replaced the CAT5 cable between the Netgear router and the Arris modem, with a CAT5e cable with the Klein RJ-45 plugs and obtained the following results:
Average Download speed: 101.42 Mbps (a 62.48 percent increase in throughput)
Average Upload speed: 6.00 Mbps (Speed is limited by carrier)
I then attached the computer to the router with a CAT5e cable to the router, and ran the tests again.
Average Download speed: 93.50 Mbps
Average Upload speed: 5.98 Mbps
Summary:
The RJ-45 connectors in conjunction with CAT5e cabling resulted in a healthy increase in the download speed and are worth investing in. They are well constructed, with well defined slots for all eight of the wires, and attach firmly when crimped. I found them to be easy to work with on solid wiring, which can be used in about 90 percent of your networking. I do recommend, that if you are going to be attaching these plugs frequently, you invest in purchasing the Klein crimping tool.

Anyone who makes their own network cables will appreciate the Klein Tools Pass-Thru Modular Data Plug Cat5e connectors with their wire pass through feature. I found it convenient to have the color coded wires pass through the connector to be sure you have them in the correct positions. Once you have purchased the pass through crimping tool and a spool of Cat5e or Cat6 cable you will never have to purchase pre-made cables again and all your cables will be the correct length. The Klein Tools Pass Through Crimper VDV226-110 is sold at Home Depot.

Its harder to get the wires through the head than it is to crimp it the old way. I'm returning the heads and crimper.

Passthrough Modular LAN connectors are a must for DYI or Professionals
These Passthrough Modular LAN connectors really simplied mu custom cabling needs throughout my home and office. They are alittle more expensive but as they say time is money and these definitely saved me both time and frustration of wrong wire color order once placing the wires inside the connector. Higkly recommend with the Klein All in One Tool to place the connectors on yhe cable.

Great Product
These are well designed and make it easy to push the wires in and keep them in the right order. If i had to re-try, it was just as simple the fist time. No frustration or hurt fingers, I don't do this very often, I like something that works well.

Cat5e Feed-Thru RJ-45 Modular Plug (25-Pack)
Cat 5e Feed-Thru connectors are single pieceCat 5e Feed-Thru connectors are single piece connectors that use the same assembly process. Open-end Feed-Thru connectors offer several advantages over standard closed end connectors. Conductor order can be verified prior to crimping. Conductors that Feed-Thru the connector are inserted far enough to be pierced by the pin below. The cable can be pushed or pulled into the connector to ensure that the twisted pairs are as close to the pin contacts as possible and that the jacket is seated beyond the primary strain relief for a secure connection. A patent pending design enables conductors to be cut flush with the end face of the connector when used with the FT-45 tool.View Full Product Description
