Questions & Answers

do these connectors accept 23 ga. conductors
ByJul 30, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Yes. These Pass-Thru™ RJ45 CAT6A connectors are designed for CAT6A cable and larger-diameter CAT6 cable, and they support both solid and stranded conductors. Standard 23 AWG conductors used in CAT6A cable are compatible, provided the cable meets the connector's maximum conductor insulation diameter specification of 0.043 in.

The description says these are for CAT-6A, but the photo does not show a metal jacket that is required for the ground drain on Cat-6A (but is not required for CAT-6). Which is correct, the description or the photo?

          Strong, quality, easy
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Strong and durable clips for your mmedia use. Used for cammera connections at my house to get my wires in good length. Great data transfer and easy installation

            Easier to work with.
These plugs, along with the tool to use them, makes building ethernet cables a lot easier, I find that stripping the cable back 1-1/2" to 2" makes it easy to install the wires one at a time. I don't have to get the wires formed just right and just the right length. I untwist the wires back to the jacket. Then I insert the wires one at a time through the correct hole. After that, I pull them through until the jacket is in the plug. The tool crimps the plug and trims the wires, and you are all set.

            Very handy to have around
If you are like me and don’t repair data cables often, you may find these pass-thru data plugs convenient to use for an occasional repair. I had just about given up trying to repair data cables with standard plugs, then I found these pass-thru plugs. With these data plugs I can cut the data wires long and passed them straight through the plug so they hang out the other end (See Photo). This allows you to verify that you have the wires in their right position, and it allows you to hold on to the wires while you crimp them. Now repairing data cables can be a frustrating task, and often it’s easier to simply replace the entire cable then to try to repair an end plug. But if you have a long cable, and it’s installed in a wall, you have no option but to replace the plug. For these occasions these modular pass-thru data plugs would be very handy to have around. I’ve always had difficulty getting the wires in the proper position prior to crimping the plug. But with these pass-thru plugs I can put the wires in one at a time assuring they’re in the right position prior to crimping. I didn’t have a special crimping tool that cuts off the wire ends automatically when I crimp so I had to cut them off with a razor blade after the plug had been crimped on. My crimping tool for standard connectors had no problem crimping these pass-thru modular data plugs.

Pass thru design eliminates need to cut all the wires to the same length
These data plugs feature the pass through design which allow you to push the 8 wires into the 8 plug holes first, and then you crimp the wires into place. This design allows you to inspect the wires first, to make sure you have the correct colors in the correct place, before you make the final crimp. Other designs may not allow you to perform an inspection before you make the final crimp. If you don’t already have one you will need to buy a special pass thru crimper that uses these pass thru connectors. The pass thru crimper has a blade that chops off the wires while it crimps. Hint 1) When you use the cutter part of the tool to cut the outer sheathing, make sure you just lightly score the outside sheathing. We had to do this several times; if you accidentally cut into any of the wires, they will break off; or will introduce cross talk if you have exposed wire. Hint 2) cut off about 3-4 inches of sheathing so your can push the wires one at a time into the plug. Trying to align all 8 wires and putting all of them into the plug may prove to be very difficult. Putting them in one at a time is much easier. Hint 3) Straighten out all the wires before you try to insert them into the connector. If they area all twisted up the connector will not slide down the wire. Hint 4) all the solid wires should be on the bottom and all the striped wires should be on the top, if the connector tor clip is facing down. If the clip is facing up it will be the opposite. Finally you need to buy a tester to check your work. We got this one for about $10. We also bought some blue strain relief boots and put them on the cable first, then slid them down to the connector when completed.

            Simple design with great results
These housing have wire pass through to verify the wiring code before crimping. The housing is very robust and crimps easily and holds secure. These housing go fast when doing a big job and the 200 pack makes the most sense for the big jobs. You must use a pass-through crimp tool like the Klein VDV226-110 being the perfect match for these housings.

Pass thru is my favorite for Ethernet wiring! Love these connector plugs!
I do not do a lot of RJ45 wiring, but I have tried both pass-thru and non-pass thru, and by far, my preference is pass-thru. The reason is that I can very clearly see the wire order as I pass them into and through the connector; spreading the wires out after they emerge from the end. Fanning out the wires has eliminated my most common mistake. I bought a 10-pack, then liked it so much I found the 50 pack, and 200-pack! Our shop standardizes on these now. I’ve never had a bad one, and I recommend the crimper tool that goes with it, the Klein VDV226-110, for pass thru on RJ45.

A Must-Have for your data cable projects
The Klein Tools Pass-Thru Modular Data Plugs, RJ-45-CAT6A, UTP, (50-Pack) are must haves for the modern, wired household. I like hard-wired components more than WiFi or Bluetooth connected components from the standpoint of security and dependability. You can buy pre-made cables of varying lengths, but more often than not, you end up with excess cable that can degrade signals and the leftover cable just gets in the way. My home has security cameras as well as peripherals for my desktop that use CAT6 cable. Having the ability to custom-make my cables is a game changer as well as an economic way to build cables. The pass-through design is so much easier to use than the non-pass through. You can easily see your wire sequence to avoid mistakes. I don’t have the latest Klein crimping tool but my old style Klein works fine for crimping and I trim the excess wire with a sharp utility knife blade. Klein Tools is a leader in the industry and having the ability to make my own custom cables is important to me. They are simple to use and you should give them a try.

            Great RJ45 plugs
I use these ever day in my job role and these are great. They are easy to install and being clear easy to see the wire colors when plugging in the wires. They are super handy to have laying around when you need to punch down cat5 or cat 6. They are heavy duty and come in a zip lock bag for storage. Well worth the money and as always a over all great product
