(What's this)
This review is for the Klein Tools PowerLine Tape Measure Pouch Model # 5712 which I was given a chance to check out. I’m a homeowner/DIY’er, not a professional tradesman so I can’t speak for the building trades. The pouch measures 4” deep x 8.25 high” (includes height of belt loop) x 4.5” wide. It’s made of double-layered Cordura nylon, and the belt loop will fit belts up to 2 1/4”. Inside of the pouch are two small elastic loops for holding pencils, small screwdrivers, etc. (See attached photos). Klein notes that the pouch will accommodate most 35-foot tape measures. The pouch is made in the USA, offers the Home Depot 90-day return, and a Klein warranty – ‘for the normal life of the product’. In use I’m finding that the pouch is a pretty good size – not so large as it constantly bumps into things, but big enough so that I can put screws or nails into it and fit my hand in far enough to reach the bottom of the pouch to retrieve the last fastener. A while ago I acquired a pocket level and one of my concerns was that there was no included belt pouch; the Klein solves that issue nicely and has room enough to add a 30’ tape measure (see photos). Clipping the tape measure to my jeans pocket (guilty as charged!) keeps the tape handy but hasn’t proven all that great for the jeans. Clipping the measure onto my work belt means fast access, but returning it to the belt is sometimes a trudge – the clip is either too tight or other things get in the way. The Klein pouch will, I think, solve that issue as well. The pouch will not, however, easily accommodate the tape measure and a handful or two of fasteners – the tape measure gets in the way of retrieving the last of the fasteners. Fit and finish is excellent – there are no loose threads or poor stitching. There was one thread that wasn’t trimmed off after construction; I’ve clipped it using scissors. The pouch can stand on its own but is flexible enough to give way when bumped; it’s not a ‘hard sided’ pouch. The loop is sewn onto the pouch, not a Velcro type faster, so you can’t adjust the loop size to match the size of belt. On the upside, the stitching makes for a very secure attachment to your belt – the pouch won’t be dislodged by bumping into ladders, etc. One of my complaints about tool pouches (for homeowner/DIY’er usage) is that they tend to be too large. I have several pouches and a belt ‘system’ – and they tend to get in my way as much as they help. This Klein seems to be about right – I can toss in a handful of fasteners or a small level or a tape measure, have them on hand, and still not knock things over when turning around. I’m rating it at five stars – warranty is good, market price is good, construction is good, and the size is about perfect for my usage (YMMV). HTH Regards, Jim
