Wouldn't connect to bluetooth on install, had to call tech support already. Next it said it was locking the door, I physically watched the lock, it never locked but app said door was locked. So...unreliable and cannot trust it. Next I was away from home. Someone forgot to lock the door (they called me). I tried to lock the door, it said it couldn't find my lock or connect to it. Worthless piece of junk. Worst money I ever spent. Going to put original deadbolt back until I get a Schlage keypad instead, they make better products. This Kwikset is trash.

Note for Schlage owners...
Referring to my previous review as Epic. I could not get the lock to complete the handle process with my 2008 Schlage lock. My lock originally looks like the Schlage picture with the torque blade in a slate while locked. Even used kwikset tech support and they walked me through the same thing. Bag ‘C’ and the silver connector. They came to the conclusion that the lock was defective so I exchanged it for a new one.
I installed the new and it behaved the same way, would not complete handle process. After goofing around with different connectors and using pliers to alter the position of the torque blade, I was able to get it to work. My torque blade looks like the slate picture in the instructions, but in order to get the handle process to complete I had to use pliers twist the torque blade to the fully horizontal position while unlocked, then used the gold connector and the handle process worked like a charm. The feedback from the LED and smart app were correct without any modification.
Note that the instruction do not cover this modified installion. It mentions Schlage torque blades in the horizontal position while locked but NOT while unlocked.

Warning: This conversion kit only works with single cylinder deadbolt locks. This is not mentioned in the instructions and the product video on the Home Depot web page. The video claims this kit can used with any deadbolt lock sold at Home Depot. This cost me about 4 hours of wasted time. Although I had purchased my lock sets from Home Depot, I had bought a double cylinder lock set. The sidelights of my front door are glass which when broken would allow a single cylinder deadbolt lock to be easily opened, defeating the purpose of having a deadbolt lock.
However, when used with a single cylinder lock, installation took minutes. My major concern is this I lack the added security offered by double cylinder deadbolt locks. Now entry to the house can be done by breaking the glass, reaching in, and turning the inside turn button. I wonder about the value added by this kit. I strongly recommend that Kwikset consider replacing the inside turn button with a lock cylinder to improve security and safety.
My next challenge was with the Z-Wave communications. This is a very common problem with all Z-Wave products, especially battery powered device such as this one. As the device is being installed, stop following the directions at Step 4 C. Instead, jump to the middle of page 4 and follow the instructions to add the device to your Z-Wave controller. Then continue installation starting from Step 4 D.
I use a Universal Devices ISY 994i for my home automation controller. This device includes a Z-Wave hub and allows me to integrate and centrally control diverse home automation devices such as X10, Insteon, OpenADR, and so on. Even though I had to move my ISY 994i from the basement to the first floor to enable communication with the Kwikset device, I did not have to resort to buying additional Z-Wave extenders.

Just finished installing my new Convert Smart Lock (Z-Wave technology version) by Kwikset. The install process was pretty easy in spite of my ancient Schlage deadbolt lock. It took longer to read and understand the instructions than to swap out old for new. Start to finish including the programming with my Alexa device was less then an hour with only a couple of screw drivers. The Convert Smart Lock box contains the hardware to install this wireless smart deadbolt whether your existing deadbolt is manufactured by Schlage, Kwikset or Baldwin so it should fit most (but not all) of the existing household deadbolt locks out there. However I had to file the strike plate hole a little larger on one side so that the deadbolt would engage without any resistance.
This Smart Lock is only the indoor component of the deadbolt - it does not include the outside keypad or sensor (one is available in a different version of this) so your door does not appear to have smart lock technology from the outside (which is what I wanted). I am not confident that this new smart technology is bullet proof from a hacker/burglar standpoint yet so I don't wish to advertise that I use smart technology to secure my house by having a keypad visible at my exterior doors. None the less this Convert Smart Lock deadbolt does all that I need it to - namely unlock an and lock my door remotely with my phone or tablet. Actually its pretty cool - I have already let a neighbor in to borrow a tool. My only reservations with the Convert Smart Lock is the inability to verify that the door is actually closed when you engage the deadbolt after you lock your house back up again - not a minor issue.

No Connection to Ring Base Station
2nd Z-Wave lock I've owned on the same version of a Ring controlled alarm system but I never could get the latest lock paired with my system despites calls to both Kwikset and Ring customer support.

Had the kwikset convert for 1 year and 2 months. Stopped working. Called kwikset support and was told it is out of warranty period and to buy another one. They do not stand by their products.
