How many black and white wires does it have? My wall socket has ability to take one black, one white and one ground.

Asked by Chris October 10, 2020

Answer

I am fairly certain that this is a single pole switch, meaning it has one black, one white and a ground wire. Unlike some other switches, this one does not require a true neutral (white) wire to operate, therefore it should work fine for your application.

How long woukd it stay on in a conercial restroom if one guest gets out but more are still in?

That would depend if the second guest is moving near the sensor, if the guest is in a stall and the sensor does not sense any movement then it would shut off at the time the installer has it set for, it is adjustable at installation and can be changed when and if necessary, if the instruction sheet is saved.

how do you wire this

It wires the same as any single pole light switch. Match colors and you should be correct... unless you are working with a 3-way circuit (i.e. 2nd controlling switch on the same circuit). This switch won't work for a 3-way circuit.

Can these be used in multple locations to control same lights?

Not sure of the question. If you mean “can it be used as a three-way switch?” then answer is No, this is a single-pole switch. A three-way switch, to control a light from multiple switches at diverse locations, would require a double-pole switch.

Motion doesn't work
Unit is rated for a small motor. Was asked to & installed one in the bar bathroom to control fan and have a Lutron motion dimmer working the lights. If I use the Lutron device fan works or light works. I can even install both att he same time, fan doesn't move enough air when set very low. Now I remember why we install Lutron motion switches with my company. I hope I know what I am doing, 16 years experience as an electrician.

The motion sensor was easily installed, and it works really well. The sensitivity is great. I am using it for my garage work lights which are all LED can lights and they work without any troubles of the old style of motion sensor.

I replaced a regular light switch in a laundry/storage room, which is regularly entered by the entire family. It has received numerous complements, since the light comes on while opening the door and stays on while doing things in the room. Then I set it to turn off the light 30 seconds after motion stops, which means it will turn off light even if a person fails to close the door.

The motion detector is great for a large open area, like a garage. The motion detection makes it easy to turn on the lights and not have to worry about shutting them off. The installation was very easy, as long as you can change a light switch, you can install this motion detector. With nothing more than a screwdriver , the installation should take no longer than 10 mins.Given that it has a few different setting it could be considered as a money saver. It has three different time settings(1 min, 5 mins, 15 mins). It has three different light intensity settings (low, mid, full). The only downside that I see is that it can only work on single pole switches. It will not work where that are multiple switches for the same lights.

The Levitin 180-degree passive infrared incandescent CFL or LED motion sensing switch is a device...
The Levitin 180-degree passive infrared incandescent CFL or LED motion sensing switch is a device with many features. It is set up using two dials that is under the device cover which is easily removed. I highly recommend that you download the instructions for installation. They can be found at this link: https://www.leviton.com/en/products/ips02-1lt scroll down to the words "support / downloads". Wiring the device requires the hot wire to be on the line side and the light or motor for a fan to be on the load side. It is imperative that you have a ground wire attached to the switch or the switch will not work. Setting up the motion control sensor can be confusing, as I had to make a call to levitan's tech support ( Levitin has excellent tech support, the wait time was 1 minute). The trouble that I encountered in setting up the motion sensor was, the left dial set up the timer from 30 seconds set at the 0 setting, to 30 minutes set at the #3 setting. (Each dial has four settings from 0 - 3). II dial on the right set-up the amount of ambient light that's currently in the room. I had to make several adjustments based on the amount of ambient light that was in my bathroom in order to get this to work. I set mine up for 15 minutes on the timer and set the ambient light to the number one position. After walking out of the room I found that I had to wait 15 minutes for the sensor to reset in order to detect motion. You can however use the switch manually,, as it has a button below the sensor. I would recommend this motion sensing switch be placed in a room that doesn't get used much, or you will be using the manual switch often. One of the other features is you can set up the switch for a vacancy area. This means that when you walk into a room you manually turn the light on and it will go off by itself within the specified time after you walk out. Another feature is that you can change the color of the switch face, from white to ivory or brown, however, I could not locate separate face covers on the Home Depot or Leviton's website.
