Q:Can this be used to control a garbage disposal?

Answer This Question

A:  Yes

by|Apr 29, 2021

    A:  Yes-

    by|Apr 29, 2021

A:  Yes I got it just for that use. I also change it the outlet that the garbage disposal is hook up to.

      by|Apr 20, 2021

A:  Yes, but you can use 15A switch also. You can see the rated amps on the unit. A switch/circuit can handle 80% of the rated load current. So a 20A switch can have 16A of continuous current. A 15A switch can have 12Amps. For example a 1 HP garbage disposal draws about 7A.

      by|Apr 21, 2021

A:  Yes but you probably only need a 15A switch (A 1 HP garbage disposal only draw about 7A) But you should match the circuit breaker.

Q:Can this be used for LED lights? Does not say specifically- others do say. Thanks

A:  Yes. This is just an on off switch. The lighted switches will sometimes mess with LED lights and make some dimly glow when in the off position, just depends on the bulb.

            A:  Yes

            by|Sep 9, 2020

A:  This is just a switch without dimming. So yes. If you want dimming capability, you need to verify that a dimmable switch is compatible with LEDs

            by|Apr 21, 2021

A:  Yes, it can. I think most switches work with all types of light bulbs when supplied by standard 120V household electrical supply. A 15 or 20 A circuit breaker is also standard. It is usually some recessed housings and some dimming switches that have issues with LED bulbs or the LED bulb that does not do well dimming. Housings and bulbs will always say what type of supply is needed. You should be fine.

Q:What screw is hot ? If wrong wire hot and natural what will happen ? Thanks

              Answer This Question

A:  In general, brass metal screws are hot and silver metal screws are neutral. On the switch, both screws are brass because you wouldn’t wire a neutral to a light switch. One of the connections goes to hot and the other one goes to the light fixture that the switch will control. It doesn’t matter which screw you connect each connection to. But the green screw is the ground connection and it does matter that you connect the ground wire and no other here. If you’re still not sure which is which, call an electrician to connect the switch!

A:  I use a ''rule of thumb'' and always put hot on top! Looking at your pic, this is only a 1pole 2throw switch, it does not get a neutral wire connected to it, if you connect a neutral as soon as you flip the switch you will cause a direct short!

                by|Nov 28, 2019

A:  The screw opposite the green ground screw is the hot (black) wire. The screw on the opposite end is the load (to the light). This switch is exactly like other on/off switches, the white neutral wire is not connected to the switch.

                  by|May 5, 2023

A:  Black or red-hot wire connects to a brass-colored screw or black wire. If you wire it backward you will pop the breaker. Always make sure the breaker is off and the power has been checked. Most of all get a licensed electrician if it seems to difficult or you are not sure. You can check YouTube for advice.

A:  In many cases, it's a matter of preference. But we typically install them with ground clip pointing up.

A:  Typically, the green ground screw is on the bottom when properly installed.

A:  normal up for on and down for off. depending on the installation

A:  Actually if you look at the metal tabs on the top and bottom you can see one that's inscribed "top" that is the top. mine had the gold thing on the bottom and top was labeled in the metal of the other side. Its hard to see for sure though.

A:  The direction is on the back of the switch, marked ' top'

                              Does its basic function well
Not much to say for this switch. It looks more stylish than older toggle switches and serves its purpose. It does require a ground wire but not a neutral. Good addition for a basic switch.
