What material is it made of? Porcelain, plastic (specify which), other?
Asked by: Zoomzoom
Porcelain. Brittle and fragile. I recommend using the plastic model if it gets a lot of use.

Can you link me one with 4 terminals please?
Asked by: sdmf74
Yes this has 2 terminals. We do not offer a pull chain with 4.

Our old box had four wires this one only has two screws not four
Asked by: Ben
You should make a pigtail connection to combine your 4 wires to 2. Observe the polarity when making your splice. Tie the 2 hot wires ( black) together, then the 2 neutral wires (white) together, (residential). Take a third wire of similar color and size, (gauge) and the them to their respective colored wire, install wire nut. Now you have 2 wires, connect to light fixture.

Can you convert flush ceiling light and add chain to turn on?

Asked by: Marti
Sometimes, if the fixture is large enough to accommodate a switch. But for the trouble and expense, you should probably purchase a fixture that already has a pullchain.

Pull Chain Ceiling Lampholder, White is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failure prone switches...I'm changing these like fuses...ugh! Do NOT buy this lampholder or anything similar to what this manufacturer is selling...weakest part of this lampholder is the actual switch and "balls" which attach the pull string to the actual switch itself. I've replaced a total of 3 of these identical lampholders in the last 6 months all failing because the switch fails or because the "ball chain" breaks internal to the switch. Going back to eBay to see if I can chase down some NOS (New "old stock") which has domestically made switches which were more reliable than these failure prone off-shore replacement lampholders. After the 2nd one failed I informed everyone in household to be extremely gentle using the pull chain to turn light on and off. If they labeled this as a "yank chain" it would be a different story. Home Depot...I'm changing these like fuses the last 6 months...change your vendor immediately!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lasted only 6 weeks Bought this to replace a porcelain chain-pull fixture that had lasted 60 years. The chain on this new one jammed and we cannot turn the light off.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from save your receipt! Had to replace within a year. There was one other product available, but I don't suppose the plastic one would hold up much better. It was in a sound location and was not abused. Cheap Chinese junk not worth the effort. Next time I will replace with a wall switch as I understand others have had to do. The house I grew up in had fixtures installed in 1965 and are still working. I would happily pay $5.00 for something that might last a reasonable amount of time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from chain broke already! JUNK! I see many others have issues with this junk. It's been less than 5 years since I installed this in a utility closet that I access and turn the light on in maybe twice a month. Another one in my house since the 1960's still has its chain intact, but this one is toast. I'd rather invest double in a product like this that will last a reasonable amount of time than waste half as much money in a throw away item. Who QA'd this? Was the acceptance criteria that it last a minimum of 200 pulls? Do yourself a favour- install a box with a switch next to it and run a piece of scrap Romex to it. A few bucks more, but it will last forever and you won't have to do this job twice or more!

I have a few of the older porcelain pull chain style fixtures in my home in closets and the basement. The fixtures last a long time but the pull chain mechanism fails after a few years. This is the first time I replaced one with the plastic base version. It doesn't feel as nice or as sturdy as the porcelain ones and even pulling the chain doesn't feel as good. It works though and I can finally turn on the light in my laundry room without pulling on the chain 20 times. like the failing one did. I use it in my laundry and utility room so it gets frequent use and it's holding up fine. This is much cheaper than the other version though. I only wish home depot would just sell the internal pull chain lamp holder so I could just replace that instead of the whole fixture as I've done in the past. If you need one of these fast these are the only ones that are available in my local stores.

Within 2-3 months, socket developed an internal loose switch connection (not a loose connection wire). Light bulbs would flicker on and off just by brushing against the pull chain string. Light would flicker when chain was pulled and sometimes would not even turn on with first pull. Usually Leviton has quality products. Replaced with another of the same socket, will see if this one lasts.

My pull light recently snapped so this is a perfect replacement. I much prefer ceramic fixtures because they are more durable and can take heat much longer than plastic light pulls. Specs are up to 250V and 660W. Fits 3 1/4 and 4" boxes and standard base bulbs. This will come with the ceramic fixture, pull string and mounting screws. It mounts to an existing electrical box with the included screws. Install takes under five minutes. I'd recommend it for anyone in the market for a new light pull fixture. Go ceramic and never have to worry about it again.
