how do you program the remote
        ByJul 11, 2025
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Hi John! Thanks for your question! To pair (or "program") a Pico remote with a Lutron Caseta dimmer or switch, follow these steps: Step # 1: Press and hold the off button on the Caseta dimmer or switch for about 6–10 seconds, until the LED on the device starts flashing. Step # 2: Press and hold the off button on the Pico remote for about 10 seconds. Step # 3: The connected light flashes three times. This confirms the Pico remote has been successfully paired. You can repeat these steps to pair the Pico with additional Lutron Caseta devices if needed. For more detailed instructions, visit the Caseta Wireless website: https://support.lutron.com/us/en/product/casetawireless/article/troubleshooting/How-to-program-a-Pico-remote-with-a-Cas%C3%A9ta-device-or-the-Lutron-app Hope this helps!

Control lights in a remote building
I wanted to control all my exterior lights from a single dimmer switch inside my house, but some of those lights are on a detached workshop. Running a wire was highly impractical. So, I installed this Caseta dimmer in my workshop, and another in my house. Finally I installed a wireless battery powered Caseta remote switch on the wall by the front door, and paired it to both switches. Now I can control both switches from that single remote. I have used Lutron Caseta switches for more than a decade. They have worked flawlessly, regardless of power outages or short glitches. Now it's the only brand I use, even though it's sometimes a bit painful to pay the significantly higher cost. PS - the included battery in the remote lasts typically more than 10 years (I have yet to change one out).

                  Wonderful
I’ve been using Caseta Smart Dimmer Switches for a several years. Since I have some health issues it has simplified turning lights & fans on/off. Some people think flipping a switch or pushing a button is easy (I did at one time) until one has various health issues. One problem that I’ve encountered is that I have two switches in my kitchen, one for the ceiling lights and the other for the island lights. When I have Siri turn off one set of lights they both get turned off. I had to add Kitchen B and use that to differentiate between the two set of lights.

                    Unlimited flexability
I have multi gang boxes that are too crowded to fit the switches. Moving the main switch to the other end of a 3way and using a Pico removes the wiring congestion. In the kitchen i needed to add an outlet to the existing 4 Gang box surround by tille again i took one of the 3 way circuits and moved the main to the other end of the circuit installed a 5 gang faceplate i added the outlet and used a pico into the extra opening or having to do any work that traditionally would have required cutting tile removing the 4 gang outlet box to install a 5 gang outlet. Reducing a 5 hr or so project into a 45 min project with zero cleanup. Using your imagination the Caseta/Pico features you can retrofit on old house to a 100% modern concept. Oh and using the Bridge everything is 100% voice controlled both locally or from anywhere in the world i the internet acess..

                      Good non-neural wire requiring dimmer
It's a good non-neural wire requiring dimmer, pairs super easily with the hub though I wish it weren't required. Its one semi-fatal flaw is it doesn't remember the last setting so my lights always come on full-blast. The $60 price tag's a bit egregious.

                        Perfect
Definitely a quality product, I needed a switch that worked without neutral and this was perfect! I di wish they had prodruding switches... So it's asy to use in the dark, wich I guess I could 3D print some but there's work awesome anyway. The dimmer works miles better than my old ones did that were manual sliders. They uses to flicker a bit with dimmer approved bulbs but with these everything is smooth as butter. Btw they do use Amazon servers for the connected feature if that concerns someone.

Do not buy this unless you’re ok with buzzing lights or going through their compatibility tool to make sure all your lights will work. Go with the PD-5NE instead. Sure it’s $99, but it works with all bulbs. All you need is a neutral wire. Not sure why Home Depot and Lutron don’t push the 5NE more. It’s so much better.

"Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We have reached out to the manufacturer and their reply isWe're glad to see you found a solution, Nick You may discover, like in your case, that a different dimmer worked better for your application. Confirming compatibility is still important for any of our dimming solutions.  We recommend making sure your bulb has been tested and approved by Lutron to provide the best dimming performance with your dimmer. There is currently no industry standard in LED manufacturing; since not all LEDs are designed the same, performance will vary with different dimmers.  Because of this, we offer a list of compatible bulbs that we have tested to be compatible with our dimmers.  To view this list of bulbs, please see our LED Compatibility Tool at lutron.com/ledfinder.

I like the fact that I can add several remotes to this without having to wire the house BUT @ 60$ this switch has no preset light level - the Pico remote that work with it does. They are very slow to react and you have to stop and hold the switch waiting for it to adjust. You will have to spend $100 to get the switch with the preset level button in the middle. Sad.

I needed a couple more of these switches to complete my downstairs. This is a little cheaper than the switch with the remote included . There are only two power wires and a neutral so installation is pretty easy. I'm not going to say that having connected lighting is needed but it's nice to have. I have certain lights come on in the morning when we all head out for school and work. If someone forgets to turn them off, there is a scene set to turn them off automatically. I use Apple Homekit so I also have voice control via Siri. It's pretty neat.
