Hello Eve Per the comment Rudy made below, the masks are compressed and sealed prior to shipping. As the product is shipped air enters the box and causes them to expand and the seal may release. This does not cause any contamination and the masks are perfectly safe to use. If you are uncomfortable you may return to Home Depot or contact us at: sales@machimpex.com for further resolution.
I would look up the details from the manufacturer - I have alergies but not had an issue with these. I also use these for my 1100 employees. No issues reported. I hope this helps.
The construction of masks have not changed, they are made from non-woven polypropylene material and the the ear loops are 70% Spandex and 30% Nylon. They are not made up of rubber latex, which is typically what people may have an allergic reaction towards when touching their skin.
