    Q:Will this control Mr. cool DIY mini split units? I need it to turn the unit on and off based on a target temperature. Currently I use the included remote which keeps it running 24/7 regardless of the set temperature, unless I turn it on/off manually.

      MrCool smart thermostat was hard to set up. You are only able to control 1 mini split. I was hoping you were able to see all the units, but I could not. The MrCool SmartHVAC app does a better job and does not cost a dollar.

        I bought one, device was defective, returned it and got another. Second one has same issues so I ...
        I bought one, device was defective, returned it and got another. Second one has same issues so I am returning it as well. Set up was easy and it started controlling my MRCOOL Mini Split right away. Problem is that the temperature will be turned down little by little as if someone is pressing the down arrow every half hour or so. But no one is. I'll even get notifications on my phone saying the temp was decreased via device button. I would be standing right next to the device and watch the temp change on it's own. I called tech support (Cielo, the company who actually makes this thing, not MRCOOL) and they told me it was a defective device and to return it to where I purchased it. Very disappointed.

          Works a lot better than the built in sensor that...
          Works a lot better than the built in sensor that is right where the air comes out. I set this on the far wall of my living room and the MrCool mini- split is up in the loft. It reads the temp down in living area where we want to keep a certain temperature. You can also calibrate the temp and humidity reading if it is off at all which helps accuracy. The only negative is it has to be in line of sight of the unit since it sends commands via standard remote in signals. It has 5 separate transmitters though and can be placed at odd angles to the unit and still works. Since it is adjustable via wifi it would be better if it communicated directly to the unit using that method as I would prefer it to be mounted down the hall. Overall good purchase and quality made.
