        Q:Can it cut shingles?
        by|Apr 28, 2023

        Answer This Question

A:  Although the Malco TurboShear can cut through Asphalt Shingles, that was not what it was designed for. It was designed for 20 ga. Sheet Metal. We have a whole line of TurboShears, each meant for different applications. The model that is meant for Asphalt Shingles is the Malco TSS1. Please do not hesitate to give our customer service a call at 800-328-3530 if you should have any further questions.

Solves the need for a quick metal shear
Produces pretty good results but requires some skill development before you'll achieve great results. When I first started using the cutter, I found it very important to have the metal I was cutting firmly anchored. That is required or you will not be able to cut at a uniform speed. The need to use constant pressure and speed is what is required to keep from wrinkling the edge of the metal stock you are cutting. I cut several sheets of roofing steel before I learned exactly how this machine likes to run and produced a lot of wrinkled edges. If you are thinking you will just rip through a piece of stock with a smooth straight line, you may be overestimating your abilities. The tool is well-designed for two-handed operations, (So forget holding your working stock with your other hand). The cost is likely its most attractive selling point. But having operated it, I may consider also picking up an all-in-one metal shear that looks like a common drill.

              fantastic little tool
I purchased this for installing a corrugated metal roof and I needed to rip 14 foot panels to fit the roof eave. I tried cutting the first panel by hand with metal snips and it took me 30 minutes and I completely destroyed the scrap piece in the process. I had to find a better way. This tool was the solution and it works really well. I was able to rip the second panel in only about 3 minutes and the scrap piece is still usable. it does like to be used at a certain rpm to create a nice clean cut without curling the cut edge so experiment with a scrap piece if possible before making your finish cuts. I would definitely recommend this tool

                Take your time cutting
This tool works great I used it to cut sheet metal to protect a outdoor tv. It cuts a straight line as long as you mark it out.

Works very well for flat metal. I was using this to cut ribbed steel panels for my shed. Getting over the ribs was tricky, but it did the job.
