4 in. Starting Collar Take Off

I decided to tackle the replacement of my entire duct system myself when the quote from the pro's was in excess of $3300, and going up to $4800 on April 1st because of the heat in FL. There was a junction box that fed the far side of the house that was obviously used as a seat by someone and was completely crushed with a big gash on the top, and there were two bathrooms being fed from that junction box, so after constructing the new box, I needed to install the new 4" starting collars to run the new ducts to each of these bathrooms (other rooms as well needed 6" starting collars). These were economical, sturdy, yet the tabs were easy enough to bend with my fingers to secure them to the new box. along with some mastic to seal and help them to stick to the box. The necks were long enough to easily slide the inner tube of the duct to, and the lip provided a great guide to get past to know where to secure it with the nylon zip tie, and make the fit snug enough not to slide off when I let go of it to wrap the zip tie on it and tighten it down with the tightening tool. I used the round neck and a sharpie to trace around it on the plenum fiberboard junction box I made to cut the hole to put the collar through. I made the box and put the collars through on my back porch, and they remained snugly in place as I navigated the box through the attic to its destination to then secure the new duct to it. I did this without gloves, and as one would expect from sheet metal, I encountered a few cuts, but I don't work well with gloves on - be mindful that the seams are sharp and can cut fingers!

This starting collar solved all of my problems. Great fix!
