How much weight can hold? Thanks

I am not sure on this one. Our mirror is about 18" X 60" and it has been holding for over a year. It didn't say how much weight it would hold on the package. I know our mirror was fairly heavy, but, I didn't weigh it. I am still checking it occasionally, and it doesn't seem to have moved at all.

What is the weight rating for these?

Answer

I would be careful with that much weight. Our mirror is about 24 X 60 and has been up for quite a while, but, I do check it every once in a while to make sure it isn't starting to slip. I think it also depends on what anchoring system you have to put the clips on the wall with. I used the largest screws that would fit in the holes and the metal expanding anchors in the places where I couldn't use a stud. Where I could, I put a screw directly into the stud. When putting up the mirror, put it in the bottom clips first, then tilt it up and raise the spring clips up on top enough to slip the top edge of the mirror under them. Then push them back down. Our mirror had to be hung vertically, so we could only use two clips at the bottom and two at the top. Another thing to watch for is that the mirror is out a bit from the wall due to the clips. With ours being so long we put a small rubber tab behind it in the center area so it wouldn't flex too much when cleaning. Hope that helps your problem.

how many lbs does it hold up to

Asked by tumble June 24, 2019

Answer

I don't know for sure how many pounds it will hold. We used it on a mirror about 2' x 5' and I am still a little worried about it, but, so far, it is holding. My guess would be about 20 pounds or so. The clips can be bent fairly easily, so make sure they don't bend when you put the weight on them, or you have something under the bottom clips that could also take the weight if they let go.

How are you supposed to glue it if you can't push the mirror flush to the wall because of the design of the clips?

There may be other ways of doing it or you may be able to get flush clips, but, these clips (pictured) don't let the mirror get close to the wall. They hold it about 3/16" away from the wall. If you are going to put a frame around it and are building the frame yourself, then, you could mount the mirror into the frame and mount the frame to the wall. Just make sure the frame will support it when it is done.

what size screws are required for this product?

If you have a small mirror, you can use the ones that come with it. Anything bigger, though, you could use what I used which were 10-24 flat head machine screws in metal wall anchors.

With the type of mirror wall brackets how do you take down existing mirror?

Asked by JVC April 17, 2016

Presume you mean how do you get the mirror off this type of bracket? Well, I had my daughter help me and all you have to to is hold onto the mirror and lift the top brackets up and tilt the mirror out and lift up. That proved to be much easier than lifting the mirror up and swinging it out from the lower brackets. We put it on and off a couple of times as we adjusted it since the top brackets did not hold it tight enough and I had to bend them a bit to snug them up. Reinstalling the mirror was just the reverse. We set the bottom into the bottom clips and tilted it up, raised the spring clips and put the top of the mirror under them. Took only seconds to do. Now with the oval mirror, if you aren't using these brackets and you don't have the plastic ones around the edge, I would guess you have it either mounted with tape or glue. You may be able to get a knife behind it to separate the tape or glue from the wall. Or, if there is a frame, there may be hidden screws on it. You will have to just study it carefully to see. Sometimes the only way to get it off results in breaking it or pulling off the silver coating from the back. You are kind of on your own with how to get it off with that. Good Luck.

What is the maximum weight these clips will hold?

I couldn't find on the package how much they would hold. Our mirror was 24X60 (1/4"glass) and the brackets did hold it (so far) using 10-24 machine screws in metal expanding wall anchors. I don't think I would go much bigger (or equivalent) though. We also don't have a lot of vibration on that wall.

The reason for the poor review is that when you want to perform a project and you put in the research to find the best possible material to use and you find this one, and when you open the package you find that a wall anchor is missing that you truly need, your project is on hold until "you" have to go and finish supplying the material needed. This is so frustrating! So I can't review the product for anything but being poor for the quality of packaging. Until I get the mirror hung then I can give a full and complete review of the product. Their is nothing that Home Depot has done it is the product!

The product does what it is intended to do. Nothing outstanding about it. Would have rated it as 'good' if there was protection between the clips/bracket and the mirror as there's no cork or other padding to protect the glass.
