Q:Is there a way to add extra wire to the sensor? I've had two units so far and my drive way is wider than it can pick up. As well can you add a solar charger to the unit?

Answer This Question
A:Â Hi Shane, We do not recommend adding extra wire. Also, the solar panel is best used with our Gate Openers. You could try putting the unit on the other side of the driveway. This unit is battery operated and not solar. Great question. Thank you

This detector / alarm was easy to install and demonstrates a good transmission range. I mounted the detector adjacent the driveway and buried the connecting cable inside some sealed tubing. A few inches of slack allows me to manipulate the transmitter plug connector as necessary. One bit of advice to remember is that, if the power at your house goes out - or even flickers - the driveway alarm, likely, will need to be reset when power is restored. This is a very welcome addition - to alert you when visitors, or a deliveryman, arrives or departs. As installed, the detector is quite inconspicuous. See photograph 1. I painted the installation brown; and I suspect that, after some weathering, it will become even less noticeable. See photograph 2.

We are so happy with our Mighty Mule driveway alarm. It is so easy to install and works fantastic. And the price is comparable to the wireless driveway alarm. We tried the wireless first but it was going off all the time and nobody was there. This driveway alarm has been flawless.

I purchased this driveway alarm with the hopes that it would transmit activations 400', or somewhere close to that, through the dense foliage along our driveway. I planned on placing it on a high spot about that distance away. Unfortunately, as the manufacturer's literature correctly suggests, dense vegetation does greatly impact the signal strength reaching the receiver. I ended up placing the transmitter about 200' away and had to raise the receiver to the highest point I could in the second story of our home and on the side of the house closest to the transmitter. It works very well that way. I also used a non-metalic paint to camouflage the transmitter's shiny black plastic and hid it behind a large tree by a rock wall, but made sure to place it on the side of the tree and rock wall facing the receiver.
I would like to see a stronger transmission signal in future models (if the FCC allows this), or the option to easily connect both the receiver and transmitter to coaxial wires for external antennas. Running a coax up one of my trees would increase the range of the transmitter quite a bit.
Other than that, the unit has been working flawlessly for the last three weeks and I highly recommend the Mighty Mule.

I had previously owned a similar product (GE Smarthome 45105 Wireless Monitor) but it died so I bought this one. It so far has worked fine giving next-to-none false signals (the previous one without the buried sensor gave a lot).
Had one issue where the 'USB' type connector at the transmitter detached as I was inserting the post into the ground. There is no way to secure it (poor design) so if it stops working, that is where to start. Otherwise it appears to be a good product that only alarms if a 'larger metal object' passes it.

This is the perfect driveway alert. Install was fairly easy. I live in an area with a lot of deer and neighbors feed the feral cats so there are a lot of critters that will set off other detectors that use motion detection. This uses metal detection and I don't get false alarms. I have a long driveway and can't see vehicles that are parked on the side of my house. I buried metal detection along the side of the driveway about 100 feet from the house. I also bought an extra receiver for inside the house, I put it in the master bedroom so we will hear an alert if someone enters the drive way at night. The other receiver was placed in the living room. I put the transmitter behind a tree about 10 feet from the buried metal detector and dug a trench to run the wires to transmitter. Cars entering driveway can not see it behind the tree. I painted the plastic mounting pipe green to blend with grass. I have the same Mighty Mule for four years but just bought a second one to mount in a secret location. After 4 years Roots from the tree grew up inside the plastic mounting pipe and into the transmitter and started causing false alarms. On my new install I drilled a hole through a cork and then slit the cork so I could place wiring inside cork without having to force the USB type connector through the cork. Hopefully this will keep tree roots from re-entering with the wires. It has been working great again for 3 weeks now.

Dakota Alert has 2500ft range with a number of transmitters from magnet to motion all which can trigger different tones. Better purchase I can assure you. It even has a 12v output where I'm triggering driveway lights to turn on when someone enters driveway.

Alert
We live in the countryside with a 400'+ long driveway. The house is situated such that the most used rooms do not have a good view of the driveway. The sensor is placed more than 150 feet from the house. The sensor picks up entry of any vehicle. It gives us an audible alert that can be heard anywhere on the main floor of the house. It gives us a sense of security and warning of someone entering the property. We hid the transmitter in bushes, so it is not visible, even if anyone would know what it was.

great driveway system
we live in the woods and were looking for somethine that critters and leaves would not set off. This unit is perfect. other than digging a foot down for 5 feet in Missouri rock/clay (we're in our 60's) bottom line is IT WORKS.................so far never failed just keep it far enough from the road cause it is sensitive, mail truck or folks turning around will set it off too. we put it @ 45 ft up the drive. a little expensive but we have tried cheap and it just is not worth it....Get this one if you want one that works......................

Works really well -- so far
I was a little leery of this product after reading some of the negative reviews, but it has worked well for me in the 4 days I've had it. I mounted the probe approximately 330 ft from the house down a slight hill from my house and the receiver picks up the signal well from the front of my house. When I had the probe closer to the house I could put the receiver anywhere, including the kitchen, but we prefer the probe as far out as possible and the receiver works best near front of house which is fine. I did mount the whole thing in a tree both to help in sending the signal and to keep it out of the ground where hopefully lightening won't destroy it like it has the previous two more expensive units I lost. It's early but so far it always alerts me when a vehicle passes by and I've had no false alerts. I'll be completely satisfied if it will last for at least a couple of years. The alarm is plenty loud enough for us but sound carries well in our home (hardwood throughout) and we have good hearing.
