A: Yes and no. The router comes with an extra base that will accept bushings. The extra base that comes with the router is dual drilled so it fits the plunge base also. So I do not see why the plunge base won't work if you change the plunge base for the bushing base that came with the router..

Q:What is the hole diameter? Will this make it so I can use 2 1/4" diameter bits? Currently they do not work.

A: The manual says the largest bit size you can use is 1 1/2"

A: The opening is 2" in diameter. The plastic is thin, roughly 1/8", I would carefully run the router bit down through it to get the larger opening, if I need it.

A: It's a 1/4" shank router. You should NEVER run a bit that large in a 1/4" shank router. That is FAR too much stress on far too little steel just spinning it up let alone cutting. You need a much larger router to use that bit safely.

A: JeffC, the Compact Router Plunge Base has a Plunge depth of 2".

A: The Milwaukee Compact Router Plunge Base has a 2 inch diameter opening. It is thin plastic that could be routed larger. However, a 2 1/4 inch bit diameter seems very large for a 1/4 inch shank. The Milwaukee Compact Router is only capable of mounting a 1/4 inch shank in its collet.

A: 3 1/4”. So you should be able to use a 2 1/4” bit.

A: The simple answer is yes, It mounts using a horseshoe shaped rod that goes through the shroud base to position it to the lower area if the plunge base. If you look at the picture posted with the question, you can see the two holes with thumb screws used to hold the rod with shroud in position. This shroud also has a port for dust collection hose. 1 1/2 outside diameter, 1 11/16 inside diameter where the hose will connect. If you already have the router with the original base the shroud that comes with it looks exactly the same where it hooks up to the vacuum hose, but the dust shroud actually is circular with a hole in the middle that the router shaft goes through ,included with the plunge base, it is made of clear transparent plastic.

Almost great but fall short.
I honestly think it’s a very well-made and comfortable plunge base. Hand grips are extremely comfortable it’s got a good quality fit and finish is nice. Would get five stars but two problems with this base. The first is more of a pet peeve the rule for the depth on the plunger base is a sticker I don’t like that at all they did this on the tablesaw and and it’s a detail that just bothers me. This needs to be a piece of etched stainless steel that is riveted on Like their circular saws details and the fit and finish is what makes the difference definitely not acceptable on the tablesaw. But my pet peeves aside overall great design works good but the second problem and is a big problem they do not sell and edge guide, they have a spot for the edge guide, they obviously thought ahead about the edge guide but currently don’t offer one. Where the edge guide would go is a U rod with two thumbscrews that currently holds in place the dust chute on every other plunge base This is where the edge guide would go so it’s an easy fix Milwaukee Make a edge guide for this plunge base. This small detail that is easy to fix would definitely be a dealbreaker for a lot of carpenters. I say it’s a small detail because it’s such an easy fix but it’s a huge component come on Milwaukee.

I own 2 full sized Milwaukee corded routers with a plunge base - they're great. I own Dewalt's corded compact router with a plunge base - it's also great. I recently decided to switch from a drill to a plunge router for "drilling" shelf pin holes in base cabinets. It's not a strenuous cut, so I figured it was time to get a cordless router and eliminate the hassle of dragging the cord around. I got the Milwaukee M18 router and plunge base to match my other battery tools. The router itself seems great, but the plunge base is a huge letdown. The thumb lever is pretty stiff, and must be pressed down way too far to allow a smooth plunge. I have fairly big hands and still can't press it down far enough without moving my hand into an awkward position on the grip. The bigger issue is the lack of precision in the base . . . It wobbles slightly while plunging. The torque required to depress the previously mentioned thumb lever actually forces the router to plunge at a slight angle. That may not matter for a lot of tasks, but my 1/4" pin holes come out larger than 1/4", making them useless for holding a shelf pin. I don't know if I got a lemon or if it's just a bad design, but I'm really disappointed. I love my Milwaukee tools, but I guess I'll have to go back to my little corded Dewalt that makes a perfect hole and doesn't require an awkward hand position to operate the lever.

Gives the M18 Trim router a whole lot more uses
I've been using the M18 trim router for a few weeks on various projects and came across a need for plunge routing, so I ordered this base and when it arrived I was using it in no time. It's very well built, smooth, and has a dust collection attachment that works fairly well with a small vacuum. I do wish the micro adjustment on the router was usable with this base but since I'm not doing any super fine work with hit I can work around that little quirk.

low quality product
I am very disappointed with my new milwaukee compact router plunge base. It was broken in first time usage. I am trying to fix plunge base on router with slightly press on quick release lever as it was printed in instruction. But when i press, the lever holder breaks and now this base is totally unusable. I am a milwaukee geek and have more than 30 tools of m18 and m12 series. But this accident is totally blows my thrust to milwaukee as unbreakable and very reliable tools producer.

This is a great addition to the M18 compact router. It allows for more accurate grooves and dados as well as function to create signs. I would recommend this to anyone who already owns the Milwaukee compact router.
